EMILY STEVENSON Obituary

EMILY ANN

STEVENSON

Dec. 3, 1995 – May 20, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Emily, who was taken from us too soon on May 20, 2024, at the young age of twenty-eight. She brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with her radiant smile and boundless curiosity.

Born in San Diego to Judy and Greg Stevenson, her first several years of life were spent in San Diego's east county, El Cajon. Making friends was a natural ability of Emily's, meeting several from Foothills United Methodist Church, Fuerte Elementary School and a parenting class in which Judy and Greg were enrolled. In 2004, her family moved to El Centro, California. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of El Centro and attended Desert Gardens Elementary School and Wilson Junior High School. She had a love for the arts her entire life with drawing, pottery and playing a clarinet as her favorites.

While attending Central Union High School, she was in Cross-Country, Swim Team, and Robotics. But her favorite extracurricular activity by far was Mock Trial. She helped the team make it to the state finals and won a trip to Harvard for their hard work. She took as many AP classes as she could and graduated second highest GPA in her class with Summa Cum Laude honers. Her motivation for education was exemplary.

After graduating, she and her high school sweetheart, Keagan, had a son named Atticus Aleksander Lee. In August of 2015, they moved to Kentucky to start a new chapter of life. She worked as a chemist for Annulox Technologies while earning an Associates degree in Arts and Science at Bluegrass Community College.

Though her time with us was brief, the depth of love and happiness she shared with us will forever remain in our hearts. She was a loving daughter, sister, and mother. Emily will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her son, Atticus; mother, Judy; father, Greg; and her brother, William.

This picture is us right before our senior year prom and it´s one of my favorite because of the story behind it. Every dance event, Emily would come over and I´d do her makeup. She always hyped me up about my makeup skills and I always told her how beautiful she was. In this pic, she´s reapplying the lipstick I put on her earlier in the day. I was cringing on the inside because it was my expensive MAC lipstick, and she was applying it on so heavily. I´d give away all my MAC lipsticks just to see her one last time

Greg & Judy,
Emily touched our hearts with her beautiful spirit. Her joy for life and love of family will live on forever. She did change the world, by the grace of God, with the birth of our grandson Atticus! We love you forever Emily!

Emily was one of the smartest individuals I have ever met. At the same time, she was kind and loving to everyone. My fondest memory was her (amusingly) concerned for my safety after I ate some strawberries we used in a lab experiment. I don't know why I did that, but it was funny at the moment. It was a daily blessing to have her as a childhood friend and lab partner. I miss her. I'll hold her memory in my heart for the rest of my life.

Emily filled our hearts with joy, laughter and love. Our hearts are now very heavy with sadness that she is no longer on this earth with us. Emily was very intelligent and always had the goal to finish her education. It just happened to be a slower process for her. We all know she was destined for amazing accomplishments, if only her time had not been shortened.
My family and I will miss her dearly. We cherish the memories of earlier years when we frequently visited San Diego to spend time with family.
Our hearts and prayers go out to all whose lives she has touched.
Our very deepest sympathy is extended to Greg, Judy, William and Atticus.

I met Emily when I went to daycare with her and her brother William. She was a genius, and so fun with a phenomenal laugh, I looked up to her during our time together in daycare and she made my experience there so memorable. Even outside of daycare I was lucky enough to also hang out at her house where her and her family made me feel so comfortable. My mom thinks so so highly of Emily and still brings her up to this day, I´m sure she made this impact on everyone she met. I had the privilege of reconnecting with her in high school and continued to look up to her as she was in extracurriculars and advanced classes, while excelling in everything that she did, such an inspiration. I´ll never forget my interactions with her and her contagious laugh that could brighten any space.

Wishing all the best to her family and loved ones. I hope some peace comes from knowing that Emily truly made an impact in the world. Absolutely incredible human being.

I will always remember you, rest in peace you absolute icon.

Emily and I texted each other about spirituality and the mysteries of the universe. She was so smart it was astounding. What a great human, she was a powerful spirit and I feel blessed to have known her the way I did. A true honor, thank you so much for being my friend when I so needed one.

My beautiful, sweet Granddaughter. I miss her! She was such a blessing to me. She always told me she loved me whenever we talked or were together. I was so proud of her when she was accepted into the University of California. I am still proud of her even though she was unable to attend due to her move to Kentucky. I have many special memories of Emily that I will treasure all my life. Emily, I will miss you the rest of my life. With love and prayers from Grandma Margaret Sttevenson

My heart goes out to Emily´s family. She was always so kind, and such a brilliant person. Thanks to Mock Trial, we spent many hours throughout high school together. She was and will always be so much a part of those memories.

We are deeply saddened of losing a family member whose life was taken away too soon, although her life was full of accomplishments in her education and lasting friendships with others since grade school and through high school. Our hearts go out to her son Atticus and her parents Greg and Judy.

My deepest condolences to the Stevenson family. Emily´s friendship was a cornerstone of my childhood, during the brief time I lived in El Centro and through our youth. To witness the bright flame of her joy, and to share the beauty and weight of growing up was a treasure. Things that seemed so big as children look so small in hindsight; I wish I could look back on it all with her again and laugh. Every person Emily knew was forever changed by her presence in their life. She will be carried through the world in the memories of all who loved her.

My deepest sorrows & condolences to your friends & family, Emily. You were a light in this world, & you were gone too soon. You were one of the, if not, THE most astounding intellects I've ever known & likely ever will know. I'll forever treasure the time we spent together.

Emily was always such a believer in and supporter of her friends´ dreams, skills, talents, and endeavors. Most of my memories of her are from when we were children and youth at FUMC El Centro. We went to Sunday school together. We acolyted together. We went to youth group and acted in a murder mystery dinner theater put on by the youth group. We also went to Camp Cedar Glen, where our circle of connections grew wider. We were a part of each other´s childhoods, and I am deeply saddened at her passing.

Judy, my deepest condolences to your family over the loss of Emily. When I met you, your son William, and your daughter Emily, Emily was always shy towards me when I talked with her. She had a very gentle and kind spirit, and like what was mentioned in this obituary of her life, she has done many great things. When I heard from her that she was doing swimming in high school, I asked her the many swimming strokes that she knew how to do. I knew that she was smart and I always knew that she would do great things, but hearing of her passing was very shocking to me, and yes it is too soon that we had lost her. - Paul Michael Fugate
