ERNESTO CAMARENA Obituary

ERNESTO "NETO" SALAZAR CAMARENA

Dec. 13, 1945 - Oct. 2, 2014

Ernesto "Neto" Salazar Camarena, 68, of Calexico, CA passed away on October 2, 2014.
Neto was born in Mexicali, B.C., Mexico on December 13, 1945, to Dora Camarena Soto and Daniel Camarena. The family immigrated to the United States in 1956. He was raised and attended schools in Calexico and later joined the U.S. Army, and after his tour of duty was honorably discharged in 1970.
Neto was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather of a quiet nature, with a beautiful soul and a truly kind heart. He is survived by his wife Linda, Imperial; daughter, Teresa and her children: Steven, Ariana, and Logan, El Centro; and daughter, Cynthia and her children: Eduardo, Serena, Jezel, Noah and Diego, Brawley. He is also survived by his mother Dora Camarena Soto (Servando), Calexico; father Daniel Camarena, El Centro; sisters Bertha Tamayo (Gilbert), El Centro; Norma Urias (Lazaro), Sacramento; Myrna Camarena, La Mesa; Sandra Camarena, Yuma, AZ; Lourdes Camarena, San Diego; Diana Lucero (Ernesto), Chula Vista; and Rosa Camarena, Los Angeles; and brother Danny Camarena (Deanne), National City; plus numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins.
Neto was preceded in death by brothers Eduardo "Lalo" Salazar Camarena who died in Vietnam in 1965, and Enrique "Kiki" Salazar Camarena who died in the line of duty in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1985.
Neto and Linda were married 39 years and renewed their vows in a religious ceremony at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on June 23, 2012.
Neto was a carpenter and landscaper by trade. He was a very caring person raising one of his grandchildren as his own. His favorite pastime was playing the guitar and singing, and providing good times to others. Neto had a great personality and charisma as he knew no strangers, helping all he could with what he had.
Both viewing and mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 135 Fourth St., Calexico, CA. Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. The religious mass will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

This great American family has again suffered a loss. Few American families have had to pay the price the Camarena Family has paid for your and my freedom. My prayers to all members of the Camarena Family for this latest loss. May God Bless the Camarena Family. America has been blessed by this most American of families.
