Francisco "Chico" Loya of Westmorland, CA passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on October 7, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

Francisco was born to Jose and Rosario Loya in Brawley, CA on September 12, 1927, at Feliciano and Elena Duarte Ranch. He was raised in Calabacillas, Chihuahua, and in Estacion Bamoa, Sinaloa (Campo Wilson). He would later return to his native hometown of Brawley, CA and settle down in Westmorland, CA.

In 1968, he married his beautiful wife, Maria Silvina Loya, and they embarked on a happy life together, recently celebrating his 96th birthday. Francisco "Chico" Loya worked for Kobayashi & Uyechi Farms in Brawley until he retired at the age of 65.

Chico will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his generous heart. He was known for going out of his way to help family, friends, and even strangers; most times without having to be asked. He was a man of faith; praying for his family and friends from the moment he woke up to the moment he laid down to sleep. His green thumb was one like no other, everything he planted flourished beautifully, as he always took extra time caring for his plants and enjoyed sharing them with his loved ones. He was a humble, loving, and caring man who always saw the good in everyone. His legacy will carry on through his children and 77 grandchildren, whom he loved and cared for dearly. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in his death by his parents, Jose and Rosario Loya; brother and sister-in-law, Jose Lino and Concepcion Loya; son, Sergio C. Loya; granddaughter, Joselynn Mia Loya; and nephew, Ricardo Loya.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Silvina Loya; sons: Ernesto (Carmen) Loya, Frank (Sandra) Loya, Refugio Loya, Enrique-Kiki (Cicely) Loya, Jose (Delilah) Loya; and daughters: Chayo (Richard) Salceda, Dolores Loya, Adrianna (Chino) Solorzano; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and those that he loved like his own children: Sergio D. (Eva) Loya, Carlos (Nina) Loya, George (Judith) Loya, Lupe Loya, Frank (Margaret) Loya, Sandra Loya, and Lino Loya Jr.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6-9 pm at Frye Chapel & Mortuary, 338 W. Aten Rd., Imperial, CA, Rosart at 7 pm. Mass on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11 am at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, CA. Burial following immediately at Riverview Cemetery.
