JAMES R. MOIOLA
Sept. 13, 1925 - July 8, 2007
James René Moiola, 81, of Brawley passed away in his home on Sunday, July 8.
He was born in Talbert (Fountain Valley area), California on September 13, 1925. He grew up on the family dairy. After graduation from Huntington Beach High, James and his twin brother, Fred joined the Navy in 1944. He served in WWII on a troop transporter ship.
On July 7, 1945 he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Nichols, at Church of the Messiah in Santa Ana, CA. They moved to the valley in 1946 and started farming in the Brawley area. Jim, Fred, and oldest brother Lawrence started Moiola Bros. feedlot in 1958. He was a member of Stockmen's Club of Imperial Valley, a supporter of the IV Historical Society, a past member of Del Rio Country Club, and Elks. Jim was an avid golfer and had played in many regional tournaments. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family at his cabin near Big Bear.
Jim was preceeded in death by his twin brother, Fred Moiola; brother, Lawrence Moiola; sisters-in-law, Betty Moiola, Betty Nichols, and Joan Moiola; brother-in-law, Alfred Borchard; nephews, Freddie Moiola, Lawrence (Buz) Moiola and Sonny Moiola.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Moiola; daughter, Lynda Moiola and companion, David Rutherford; son, Tom and his wife, Laura; son, David and his wife, Linda; sister, Rose Borchard; niece and business partner, Sharon Barnebee, all of Brawley; brother-in-law, John Nichols and wife Genie of Yorba Linda and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Shaeley Berker and her husband, Jon, John Moiola and his wife, Ayron of Brawley, Jill Murphy and her husband, Capt. Joe Murphy, and James T. Moiola of Carlsbad; and great-grandchildren, Brenna and Brett Berker of Brawley.
A Memorial Service will be held at Frye Chapel on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pioneers Memorial Hospital Foundation, 207 W. Legion Rd., Brawley, CA 92227 or charity of choice.

Not many men can carry a full cup and keep their balance. Jim Moiola could. We celebrate his great character and the blessings it brought to your family, while we also ask God to comfort you in his absence. He will always be a dear memory from the years I spent working with him.
