JOSE LA CUESTA Obituary

JOSE LA CUESTA

Oct. 1, 1965 Jan. 11, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jose "Block" La Cuesta.

Born in El Centro, CA, Jose graduated from Central Union High School in 1983. Jose lived in El Centro most of his life. For a brief time, he lived in Phoenix, AZ, and Calexico, CA, but El Centro was always his home. He attended IVC and SDSU Calexico Campus, and worked as a tutor for over 25 years, specializing in math.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Jose was a kind-hearted, protective, loving family man who brought out the best in people. He made everyone laugh and had a very memorable one himself. He was accepting of others and did not judge people. He would speak with strangers and make friends easily. He was a very patient person and had a unique style that was unforgettable. Jose enjoyed family gatherings, drinking a beer with friends, and talking to the fakenods.

In his younger days, he helped the Jam-a-lot crew DJ at several parties and events. He kept his hair long and could always be seen wearing his Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Jose adored the family children and loved being the cool uncle and parent. He looked forward to family movie nights and was a wonderful husband and father. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andres "Andy" La Cuesta; his mother, Petra Ibarra La Cuesta; and his nephews, Julian Naungayan, Robert Naungayan Jr., and Elias Acosta Van Bebber.

Jose is survived by his wife, Erica La Cuesta; son, Gabriel La Cuesta; daughter, Isabella "Bella" La Cuesta; his siblings, Lucy (Bert) Alleyne, Antonio "Tony" (Rosie) La Cuesta, John (Alice) La Cuesta, Rosalina "Rosa" (Kerry) Van Bebber, Erendira "Eddie" (Robert) Naungayan, Mario (Diana) La Cuesta, Jaime (Connie) La Cuesta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Frye Chapel Mortuary in Imperial, CA, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro, CA.

PapaBear,

It´s been 17 days without you and I still can´t believe you´re gone. I love you dad so so much. I am going to miss you always and forever dad. I know you´ll never leave me. You´ll always be with me.

I am going to miss you calling me mijo or your favorite son just so I could tell you that I´m your only son. I will take everything t you´ve taught me and I will teach it one day to my kids.

You´re my hero papa bear. I never said because I couldn´t see it. But you´re my Superman.

I love you and I miss you dad.

- your Boy- Gabriel La Cuesta (mijo)
