Jose Lorenzo Ortega, 71, of El Centro, CA, passed away on October 3, 2025. Born on February 19, 1954, Jose was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his family. He graduated from Imperial High School and furthered his education at Imperial Valley College.
Jose's career was marked by his ownership and operation of several businesses, including a trucking company, gas stations, taxi services, and a farming company. His hard work and commitment to his ventures were evident in their success and the respect he garnered in the business community.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Martha Ortega; sons, Erik and Denzel Ortega; daughter-in-law, Claudia Carrasco; grandson, Erik Ortega; brothers, Hilaro, Alvaro, Edward, Daniel, and Leo Ortega; and sisters, Olga Ortega, Estelle Gonzalez, and Maria McClure. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Maximino and Maria del Refugio Ortega, and brothers, David, Jose Luis, and Ramiro Ortega, as well as his nephew, Antonio Ortega.
A visitation will be held on November 5, 2025, at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will follow on November 6, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico at 10 a.m. Jose's commitment to his family and his entrepreneurial spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
