KATHLEEN DUGGINS Obituary

KATHLEEN KATHY DUGGINS

July 1, 1947 Jan. 30, 2023

Kathy Duggins was a longtime resident of Imperial, CA. She moved here as a young bride after marrying Jim Duggins in 1967. They met while at San Diego State University. Jim told his family he had met the love of his life, and it's still true today.

Kathy held a BA from SDSU and was an educator. She had an unquenchable thirst for education. She served on the Board of Education for years in Imperial. She coached tennis and students she had still comment that her training and encouragement set them on the path for success.

Kathy was "larger than life" and a multi-talented woman. She let nothing stand in the way of her challenges or dreams and told others to do the same. Her motto was: You can be anything you want to be.

She was a pilot and served as Duggins Construction corporate pilot for years. Upon landing, she was often overlooked as those in charge sought a male pilot. She didn't bother to correct them. But she just told them what needed to be done with her plane.

She was a successful businesswoman, often ahead of her time. She created Video 2000 and ran it until she sold it. She owned and ran several companies, one being in property development.

She had a heart for helping young people find and fulfill their dreams. She lived every moment to the fullest and challenged others to do the same.

Her legacy will carry on forever, reminding us that each of us can control our attitudes and has the ability to strive for the stars. Those who knew her never had to wonder where they stood with her, as she was direct and honest. She was never afraid to take on any opportunity and dealt with others with honesty and integrity. She will be missed.

Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Donald Duggins; her mother and father, Bill and Katie Russell; and her brother, Jim Russell.

She leaves behind her husband, Jim Duggins; a daughter, Shauna Duggins; son-in-law, Brian Machleit; son, Tim Duggins; grandsons, Liam Machelit and Timmy Duggins; granddaughter, Kala Nicole Duggins; brother, Steve Russell; and many nieces and nephews.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A Celebration of a life will be held at Del Rio Country Club in Brawley, CA, for friends and family on February 19, 2023, from 2-5 pm.

Jim, Shauna, Tim, I´m so sorry for your loss, Kathy was a bright shining star that will forever be remembered. When I came to work for Duggins Const in 1978 & the 1st time I met Kathy, she was very intimidating but as time went by, I felt so comfortable with her & we had a lot of laughs! RIP Kathy

Jim, Shauna, Tim and the rest of the family our condolences. Kathy was a bright light in any room she entered! She was passionate, deliberate, straightforward and honest. I enjoyed our conversations! After I retired from Education and decided (when is started heating up) I needed a “little” job to get me out of the house. Hostess at Famous Dave’s fit that bill. Every time her and Jim would come in she would tell me about a great job I would be perfect for. Me “Kathy I’m retired. I already paid my dues on the stress highway.” Kathy “You would be excellent and “they” would love you.” She always had some kind of fun conversation.
Kathy you were one of a kind and will be missed.
I will never forget you!

Jim and family, Kathy is going to be missed so much. Though we were miles apart there was a special friendship.
As others have stated Kathy was a very successful woman and she didn´t back down from anything.
I thoroughly enjoyed her visit a couple of years ago. I will treasure the time we had together.
Prayers that God will carry you through this time.

Jimmy and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. What a beautiful Obituary. Kathy was absolutely bigger than life and her life will go on and on in the lives of all she taught and helped along the way. She made the most beautiful quilts ever and one time I told her that my daughter had asked me to make a quilt for her but I had never made a quilt in my life and it seemed like an impossible task. That's all Kathy had to hear. She told me how to get started and at times I would almost give up but Kathy came by regularly, taking time out of her busy schedule to see how it was coming. She always encouraged me, especially when I just felt like giving up and because of her unselfish dedication to my project, my daughter now has one of her favorite treasures. Thank you Kathy. Fly with the Angels. Much love.

I was saddened to hear of Kathys passing. I played many sets of tennis with and against Cathy in the 70's and 80's. She was fun, a good sport and enjoyed tennis. We played on the CUHS courts but most of our matches were played at Hyde Park. Great times. Thank you Cathy for the good memories.
