Jimmy Moses

Mr. Holmes was my Ag. teacher at Central High in my freshman & sophomore years in high school before transferring to Holtville. I learned more from his class than any other class I had. He thought our class welding, metalwork, woodwork, some auto mechanics, gardening, raising animals for the fair and how to show them in the ring. To us, he was "Homer". He always insisted on calling me, James. I would put Jimmy on the work I turned and he would cross it out and write "James" on it. I remember he ordered some bees to start a hive. They arrived in a small little box of wood and screen on the sides. Someone poked a hole in the screen. When we go to class honey bees were everywhere in the classroom. There were 3 of us Moses brothers that were in his various classes.Mr. Holmes was also the FFA advisor. Rest in peace, God Bless.

The Stodola family expresses its condolences to the Holmes family on the loss of Kenny. Our dad, Bob, said that Kenny was one of the finest teachers he ever had the pleasure of working with throughout his career. He was truly a great man and educator. Rest in Peace.

I am sorry to read of the passing of Mr. Holmes but amazed that he was 101! I remember being in the Ag class at Central in 1956 with Mr. Holmes and Mr. Johnson. There were a lot of us young fellows taking Ag at that time and also participating in the FFA. All had a lasting affect in my life as I, like Mr. Holmes, got a degree at Cal Poly, SLO, in Farm Management. Was never aware of his distinguished military service but thanks for that. And what a great teaching career at Central and to think of all the young lives he influenced. Wow! My condolences to the Holmes Family.

So very sorry to read of Mr. Holmes passing.
I took many / most of his classes between '61 and '65 at CUHS. He also had some great flying story's.
