LARRY COOPER Obituary

LARRY EUGENE

COOPER

Jan. 28, 1943 – June 18, 2025

Larry Eugene Cooper, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather entered eternal rest in the presence of family in Las Cruces, New Mexico on June 18, 2025, at the age of 82, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born January 28, 1943, in Kilgore, Texas to Harry Eldridge Cooper and Geraldine Baker Cooper. He was raised in Imperial, California and graduated from Imperial High School in 1961. He also attended Imperial Valley College.

He married Norma Beall on November 25, 1964. He worked for the Imperial Irrigation District as a lineman and continued that part of his career in Riverside, California. Larry was an avid outdoors man and loved to hunt and fish. He later moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he was a licensed plumber and electrician, as well as a heavy equipment operator. He then spent many years doing the love of his life and retired as a fishing guide while owning his own business, Arkansas Best Guide Service. He then moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a very generous man to all and helped many people in his lifetime.

He is survived by Norma Cooper; daughters, Sharon Kirtley (Vince) and Karen Cooper; granddaughter, Randi; and grandson, Nicholas; special great-grandson, Dylan (Marine Corps); and great-grand daughters Charlie and Ryan; as well as many other great-grandchildren, all of Hot Springs, and brother, Ronnie Cooper of Las Cruces. Larry was father-like to the late Jamie Lay of Imperial. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Cooper and sister, Sandra Cooper Nix.

Larry received exceptional care by his daughter Sharon and her special friend Karla, friends Elena, Moses and Maria, as well as those of Hospice. The continued friendship of Omero is also appreciated by the family.

He will be greatly missed by the family and all those who loved and knew him. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his faithful friends of Imperial and his classmates, friends in Hot Springs and friends in Las Cruces and our many cousins and family members across the country.

At Larry's request, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements and appreciated support are being provided by Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001. To sign the online guest book or send condolences log on to www.getzfuneralhome.com

Larry was indeed a father-like figure to Jamie as well as a true friend and the Best Man at out wedding. The two are together now swapping hunting and fishing stories. Rest in peace Larry.

To Larry's loved ones ~ I went through school with Larry. He was adorable, funny, shy, handsome and so much fun to hang out with. I was just thinking about him this morning (6/28/25), wishing I knew how to get back in touch with him. I do that every now and then. I wish I could have seen him and heard his voice just one more time.
