LEE WONG Obituary

LEE SHEE WONG

Feb. 19, 1911 - Dec. 17, 2014

Lee Wong, 103, of Brawley passed away December 17, 2014.
Lee Shee Wong (Mama Wong) was born on February 19, 1911 in Tai Shan, China. She married Wong S. Moon in Hong Kong in 1931. She immigrated to San Francisco in 1945 to join her husband. In 1957, her family moved to Brawley, California to start a grocery store business, appropriately named Wong's Market. Customers endearingly greeted Lee Shee upon entering the store as "Mama Wong". Their specialty at the store which brought customers in were the chili saladitos and the specially prepared carne asada. She loved to hold the customers' brand new babies and weigh them on the scale (as she did with all her grandchildren.) Lee Shee retired from her business in 2002. Lee Shee was a very skillful seamstress and businesswoman. She loved to cook special Chinese food, and during her retirement enjoyed watching Chinese soap operas and listening to Chinese music. She especially looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great-granddaugh- ters. Her legacy will live on through her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wong S. Moon; son, Victor Wong; and great- grandson, Michael Wong.
Lee is survived by her son, Danny (Darlene) Wong; daughter-in-law, Lula Wong; daughters, Susan Quan and Peony Wong; granddaughter, Tina Loo (Michael); grandsons, Damien (Mindy) Wong, Darren (Sandy) Wong, and Darrick Wong. She leaves behind 7 great-grand- children, Jeremy, Mackenzie, Christopher Loo, Madison and London Wong whom she dearly loved with all her heart. She has one brother, Dewey and one sister, Jean.
Visitation will take place Monday, January 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley. Chapel Service will commence at 10 a.m. at Frye Chapel on Tuesday morning with Pastor Wes Smith officiating. Lee will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery after the service.

We are so sorry for your loss. Great memories of Mama Wong and my dad. Every time we went to Wongs to get abulone (LOL) she would look up at my dad (who is 6'4) and say "you so ugly" and then look at my mom and say "you soooo pretty. how did you marry him...ugly ugly" LOL. My parents and I were very sad to hear of her passing. Truly a beautiful lady. May all of your beautiful memories help ease your pain of losing her.

To The Wong family,
What an incredible person who always smiled and made our day if we walked into Wong's Market. "Hello, Sonny!" in her voice still rings in my ears. I am lucky to have been touched by such a great person from my childhood and into adulthood.
"Mama" Wong, you were such a positive staple in so many peoples lives. Our community will always have her in our hearts.
