LEWIS BAKER Obituary

LEWIS LEE BAKER

Jan. 10, 1937 May 18, 2022

Lewis Lee Baker (Louie)born in Texas moved to El Centro CA as a young boy. Lewis Married Tucker Volita K (Tucker) Baker his late wife on Valentines Day, that way he couldn't forget an anniversary and only had to buy one gift.

He was thrifty, he was mechanically inclined and he liked to race Baja, Nevada and the Imperial Valley deserts. He often landed his crop duster in the desert so he wouldn't miss a race. He raced anything that had wheels on it.

He graduated from Imperial high school in 1957. Lewis knew hardwork and common sense goes a long way. He had a hand in planting thornless mesquite trees all over Imperial. Louie knew that was the way to get shade in Imperial Valley.

He had two daughters, the late Shalyn Baker. And is survived by daughter Brandi Baker, the mother of his grandchildren Hunter Lewis Rosson and Bree Lynn Thomas- Baker.

He was an Ag pilot with decades of crop dusting in Imperial Valley. He received a lifetime achievement award in his field. Louie Baker lived a great life, when he retired he purchased a piece of property that he turned into Baker Lake. He enjoyed making it a place, that many people from the Imperial Valley could create memories.

He passed May 18, 2022 at his home in Imperial CA. Right by the brick fireplace that he built with his own hands. Services will be held At 1 pm on June 12, 2022 at Moose Lodge where he was a lifetime member. Located at 2310 Myrtle Rd. Family asks to bring your memories and fond thoughts with you.

I have known Lou since 6th grade in Imperial. I played foot ball with him in high school. He said they handed him his diploma out the back door, but went on to own half of Imperial. He got me started in a thirty year career of crop dusting. A very generous guy that would give you the shirt off his back. The world needs more like him. Gonna miss you Lou.

Just saw this. So sad. I Remember Louie from when he became a pilot at VISCO and when he would come in Tarvin's Grocery. We thought he was cool driving that Black T bird. Was at the Waikiki Drive-in one night sitting in the T Bird and we took off to the bakery in El Centro where hid uncle work. He went in and grabbed two loves of bread fresh out of the oven so hot he was juggelin them cause they were burning his hands. Went back it the drive-in and ordered Cherry cokes and a bunch o butter from the car hop.Buttered up that bread gobbled it down with the help of several car hops. That was so great evening. He was one of the big time older cool guys.

It's difficult to imagine Imperial without Louie. I've known him most of my life. At least he is now with Volita (he always called her "Tucker") and Shalyn. Louie was One Of A Kind. Lots of fun memories. My heart breaks because I won't see you again on this earth. Wish I could be there for your memorial. Love and hugs, Kathleen Dermody.
