MARGARET MILLER Obituary

Peggy Miller, 89, of Imperial passed away on September 7, 2016 at home surrounded by family after a long battle with Parkinson's. The Parkinson's may have taken her body but it never touched her quick wit and thoughtfulness to others. Peggy was born to the late James and Sarah Danskin on December 11, 1926 in Anaheim, CA. At age 6 Peggy and her family moved to Brawley, where she attended school to the 6th grade then moved to Imperial, where she graduated from Imperial High School with the class of 1944. In high school Peggy was know for her shy demeanor and impressive height of almost 6 ft. She was very active in 4-H and GAA. During high school while riding the school bus she met the "swellest" guy she had ever seen. Thus began a lifelong romance of 75+ years. In 1945 Peggy moved with her family to Laguna Beach, CA and held various jobs. At the end of the war, upon his return from the Navy, Peggy married her high school sweetheart William "Bill" Miller on September 14, 1947 in a small church in Laguna Beach. They made their home in Imperial where they raised their 6 children. Peggy was very involved in her children's school and activities. She was active in the Imperial 4-H Club instructing students in sewing and later as the community leader. She often transported young 4-Hers to county and regional demonstration days and leadership conferences. For a period of time she was the Special ED assistant and playground attendant at Frank Wright Junior High. For many years Peggy helped her husband in the Imperial Little League, volunteering in the snack bar, washing and mending uniforms and transporting ball players and their families to games. As an active member of the Imperial Community Church Peggy started the Imperial Cradle Roll where she would visit families with new babies to register them for religious support. She could always be found in the Church Parish Hall kitchen, sewing quilts for the needy or with the babies in the nursery. There have been many organizations and charities dear to Peggy's heart through the years. Women's Farm Bureau, Diamond Member of Imperial Co. Historical Society, Pine Valley Bible Camp and the Imperial County Humane Society of Imperial County. She loved tending her vegetable garden and many rose bushes that were shared with her children's teachers, friends and family. Peggy was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Gary; siblings, Robert and James Danskin and Jean Flanagan. Peggy is survived by her husband, Bill, 7 days short of their 69th anniversary; sons, Doug (Joyce) of Oregon City, OR, Jeff (Tene) of Yuma, AZ, Terry (Jennifer) of Redlands, CA, William (Nellie) of Daniel, WY and daughters, Sandra Gustafson of Imperial, CA, Sharon Miller of Palm Desert, CA, a brother, Norman Danskin of NV; grandchildren, David, Chris, Steven and Richard Gustafson, Jeff and James Miller, Garrett Miller and Kristen Young, Logan, Jon, Andrew Jones and Zachary Miller, Austin Deisch-Miller and Nathaniel Miller and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 15th at 8 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery and will be officiated by Pastor Albert Sanchez. Following the service there will be a remembrance brunch at 10 a.m. held in Imperial Community Church Educational Building. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Imperial County Humane Society of Imperial County, which is Peggy's favorite charity.

The Miller family is part of my personal history both living in Imperial and attending Imperial Community Church. One memory is Peggy in the church kitchen, at the Parrish Hall, with other precious women of the church. Her volunteer work at church was well known and her calm, graceful mannerisms are something I remember. My condolences to Bill and the family are for the physical loss of this precious lady. The knowledge that you will once again be together in heaven is a promise to cling to at this time.

Although I've never met Peggy in person, I know from listening to her son, Doug, that she was a remarkable woman-much loved and respected. Prayers for comfort and many fond memories that may come to mind during this time of grief and healing. She will certainly be missed, but her legacy will live on here on earth until we meet in eternity.

Dearest Sharon, I am so sorry of your loss. Your mom was very blessed to have such a caring daughter as you. We should all pray that when it is our time to leave this earth and make our journey to heaven, that we have someone like you holding our hand. Although this is a very difficult time for you and your family, remember the wonderful human being that was your mom, all the good memories and laughs. Remember her warm hugs and loving guidance. May God give you peace and comfort in the following days, months and years as you adjust to life without your mom. Much love, prayers and friendship, Rhonda & Ray

Peggy was a strong but gentle person. She was a person to put her faith into action. This benefitted her family, friends and a wide circle of of others in her community and beyond. She was such a good friend to my mom. A visit from Peggy was always accompanied by a bouquet of roses from her yard. Mom enjoyed them so much. Then it was time for a cup of tea. She will be missed.
