MILLIE LOPEZ Obituary
Millie Lopez, 73, of Calexico passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. She was born on May 28, 1946 in Silver City, New Mexico and later married Simon C. Lopez. Millie F. Lopez retired from Calexico Unified School District in 2007 after 39 years of service. Throughout her tenure at CUSD, she worked as a Physical Education Teacher & volley ball coach at Calexico High School, where she touched the lives of many students and staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia B. Fletcher and John T. Fletcher. Millie is survived by her husband, Simon C. Lopez; daughters, Lisa M. Lopez-Velez, Laurie C. Lopez; grandchildren, Christian A. Velez, Paige N. Velez and son-in-law, Mariano Velez III. Services were held on Monday, February 17, 2020.

I remember Mrs. Lopez during my years in high school. She always had a serious face but was the sweetest teacher you could meet. I always enjoyed her classes or ever just stop by and say hi after I graduated and was glad when ever I bumped into her in the streets. The heavens have gotten an angel to clear our paths and watch our step. My sympathies to her family, my god bless her soul and may her Rest In Peace. See you soon Mrs. Lopez

It was a pleasure to be one of her students at De Anza jr. High in the 1998s class, she was a great teacher that I will always remember as a good person that always motivate us ti be a better person.

I remember Mrs.Lopez as a P. E. Teacher during my high school years. Although I never had her I did interact with her and I remember she was always nice but also a tough cookie. She would not let me get away with anything. I have always had great respect for her and she helped me get through some tough days by always lending positive words and advice. My heart goes to her family and may she Rest In Peace.
