OSCAR B. ORTIZ
June 30, 1943 - Aug. 1, 2013
Oscar B. Ortiz, M.D., of El Centro, was born June 30, 1943 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Juan and Rosa Ortiz. He passed away on August 1, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas; his parents and sister, Christina.
He is survived by his daughters, Ariana, Kiesel, Montserat Ortiz; grandsons, Daymond, Nicholas and Daniel Kiesel.
After receiving his medical degree at the University of Buenos Aires, he completed three years of pediatric training before moving to the U.S. His training continued with three more years of pediatrics in Rochester, NY, New Haven, Connecticut and two years of Neonatology training in Long Beach, CA. In 1977 he moved to the Imperial Valley to practice pediatrics and was the driving force to build the Neonatal Intensive Care unit at ECRMC. Without his training and expertise, the unit would have remained just a dream. He was responsible for training all the personnel who worked in the unit. Dr. Ortiz was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego. He was the co-founder of the Child Abuse Prevention Council and worked diligently as pediatrician for the Department of Youth Authority at the El Centro Training Center in addition to private practice. He was a loving father, dedicated physician and loyal friend.
There will be a Memorial Service in his honor on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Southwest High School Auditorium at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Child Abuse Prevention Council be made in his name.

Dr. Ortiz you are so loved. You are amazing,exceptional and generous person. When you treated children you doled out an extra dose of smiles and love. Dr. Ortiz was AMAZING!!! My kids would love to go to consultation with him because he was HILARIOUS!!! THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE AT THE CIRCUS. Dr. Ortiz had the touch of having the patient get better by just SEEING AND HEARING. DR. ORTIZ WAS AN OUTSTANDING PEDETRICIAN AND HUMAN BEING!!! HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. Definitivamente el mejor pediatra y el mejor doctor del Valle Imperial. Va ser el mas querido y el mas recordafo por sus pacientes y los padres. El se gano el carino y el respeto de todos los que tuvimos la suerte de conocerlo. No he conocido otro doctor con mas carisma y mas angel con los ninos. Siempre tan amable y su gran calidad humana. So sorry for your loss. Dr Ortiz was my daughter's doctor when she was born with Downs Syndrome in 1982 at ECRMC neo-natal. She is alive today because of him.
