RICHARD WYMORE Obituary

Richard C. (Dick) Wymore was born on January 27, 1925. He went to be with his Lord on July 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Wymore. Dick entered the Navy in May 1943, where he was trained to be a machinist. He served aboard the escort carrier USS Nehenta Bay (CVE 74) as a machinist mate. He came to El Centro in June, 1947, to start a machine shop which has remained in business for 73 years. He retired in 2004 and his daughter took over until 2018, at which time his grandson took charge. He was honored by being selected to be an Honorary Blue Angel and had a ride in one of their planes. He was also named "Kiwanian of the Year" and was active in many other civic organizations, such as the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, as well as being very involved in his church. He will be remembered as a man of generosity, integrity, and friendliness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his three children, Tom, Rich and Marla Wymore many grandchildren and great-grand children. A private memorial service will be held on July 21, 2020 at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Ireland and Beyond, 33127 Thousand Oaks Blvd., TX 77354, or to Valley Christian Church in El Centro. Dick strongly supported both of these organizations during his lifetime.

I spent many hours during winter training with Dick and his German Short Hair Retriever. Our dove hunting adventures provided some of my best memories of three winters in El Centro. He was a great man and a great friend. He will be missed. Capt Gil Rud USN (Ret.)

Dick was such a bright light of positivity to all who knew him. He was the quintessential "Quiet Man" who let his actions speak louder than words. His soft smile will be missed. One of my Blue Angel teammates reminded me that Dick created the stopwatch holder for our jets' essential for the accuracy of our maneuvers. He will be sorely missed by the hundreds of Blues, both officers and enlisted, who knew him. So long Dick. You'll be in a place where there are always "fair winds and following seas." See you on the street of gold someday. God rest your soul.

Warning. Long post!
My dad is now with the Lord, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. It was very hard to see that disease slowly steal away a great man. But the legacy of who he is remains, of course, so here are a few thoughts about the legacy he leaves behind.
My dad probably never knew this, but one time my mom described my dad as one man in a million. That phrase has stayed with me all my life, and I believe she was right. Here are a few reasons.
First, my dad was a leader. My dad spent decades leading a company through good times and bad times, and he did so with a caring heart for others and a commitment to make sure that customers could count on Wymores doing things right. He also led in other, serving on the board at church, as scoutmaster, taking the lead in caring for the Blue Angels during their training here, and in other leadership roles in the community,
Second, my dad was also a servant. Watching him care for our mother during her final years proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt. He served in many other areas as well. Every time we drive by the First Christian Church building we see evidence of his servants heart. I think, too, of how many members of the Blue Angels got to experience not just good barbecue but good hunting and good friendship from my dad. Dad also served his country as part of the Greatest Generationsomething I appreciate more and more each time I meet a WWII vet or read about the Great War. He also served us as his children. Many of my friends didnt have a dad who taught them how to fish or hunt or work or fix cars, but we did. Thanks for serving and loving us, Dad.
Third, my dad was remarkably generous. I learned how to be generous and hospitable by watching him. I trace my own deep commitment to generosity to my learning it from Dad. Every time I turned around I was watching him give.
Fourth, my dad put his strong mind to good use. My dads strong mind was a gift from God, something he never took pride in but used wisely. We watched him put his mind to very good use, and he taught us to do the same, challenging us to think things out, use initiative, etc. He and mom also both modeled good reading habits, and I owe my love for history directly to my Dad.
There are many others, I know, who could add words about Dick Wymores legacy. I have been touched by the words of so many who describe my dad as a mentor and as someone who changed their life. So I, along with many others, celebrate and honor a life well lived. In a day when more and more seem to live only for the moment or for themselves, Dick Wymore leaves a legacy of one who lived beyond himself, for God, for country, for others. Well done, Dad! Your legacy will live on in us. Thank you for leaving this earth a richer, fuller place because you lived!

Dick Wymore was a wonderful man. I knew him from our mutual Kiwanis membership, he loved Kiwanis and was a great member. My dad & I took farm equipment to his shop and it was always fixed right every time, on time. We'll miss him.

Sincere condolences to the Wymore family. I spent a lot of time with Dick in the early geothermal days and found him to be competent, organized and efficient, he always delivered and managed to be very friendly at the same time. I loved working with him and he was definitely a huge asset to the valley. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed. To my old friend Rich and the rest of the family I am very sorry for your loss. RIP Dick
