SIMON "SKIP" ALFONSO BERRIOCHOA
Aug. 22, 1911 - Apr. 22, 2007
Known as "Skip" to all his friends, Simon was born in Shoeshone, Idaho to immigrant Basque pioneers and was the youngest son of 11 children. He passed away peacefully in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
While living in Nevada in the late 1920's and early 1930's, he worked on the construction of the Hoover Dam and boxed professionally. He later moved to the Imperial Valley (El Centro, California), worked in agriculture with Abatti Farms and retired from the Stoker Company with over 40 years of employment. After his retirement, he moved to Mexico and was employed as a safety inspector by well-known U.S. and Mexican trucking companies.
Simon was an avid sports fan, but especially enjoyed professional boxing and horseracing. While a licensed boxing referee for the state of California and the county of Mexic, he officiated at local, state, and world-title matches.
Simon was a gregarious, fun-loving person who touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by those who loved and laughed with him.
He is survived by his 100 year old sister, Grace; sister, Margaret; wife, Socorro; his four sons, Guillermo, Simon Jr., George and Carlos; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Your blessed for having him for so long.He lived life on his terms.I remember Skip well, having his son George not only as a good friend but, also as my college roomate. In his later years we talked alot about boxing as I have been a member of the Nevada boxing Commission for sometime now. I was kept informed of his health and activities by my good friend George.May God bless your family during this sensitive time.Sincerly, Jack Lazzarotto,Nevada Boxing Commission

Simon was my Grandpa Carlos's brother and lived in Shoshone during one summer. This was when I met Simon and he seemed like a very good guy. Sorry for your loss.
