George Montgomery Obituary
He served in the United States Army from 1957-1963.
On April 26, 1958, he married Bonnie (Thornton) Montgomery in Perrin, Texas. Upon Honorable Discharge from the Army, he and Bonnie settled in Joplin to raise their family. In 1961 they welcomed their first child and Lewis took a job with Lone Star Gas. Four years later another daughter joined the family and then in 1968 the family welcomed a baby boy to complete the family.
Everyone that knew Lewis knew that he was a hard worker and when he retired from Lone Star Gas in 1990 that he wasn't really retiring. He was making time to cut firewood and garden.
Today, Lewis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie. Daughters, Laura Rhone (Billy); Martha Southard (Gary) and son George Montgomery (Beverly). 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Sister, Dot Thorp and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Rush and Gladys Montgomery. Sisters, Lina Belle Taylor, Mildred Tipps and Louise Olree. Brothers, John Montgomery and Guy Montgomery.
A visitation will be held from 1 PM- 2 PM Friday, February 24th at Joplin Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow starting at 2 PM. Burial will take place at Joplin Fairview Cemetery.
