James Bridges Obituary

James Preston Bridges, known affectionately as Preston to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the Westbury Center of Jackson for Nursing and Healing. Born on March 18, 1938, in Griffin, Georgia, Preston lived a full and vibrant life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and community.

Preston was predeceased by his parents, James E. and Annie Grace Rogers Bridges, his beloved daughter Adina Bridges, and his sister Nancy Crane. His legacy of love and strength lives on through his wife of 67 years, Shirley Bridges, his sons Keith & Rhonda Bridges and Greg Bridges, his daughter Donna Worley, his grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Jordan Bridges, Lydia Breeden, Leah Bridges, and Jeremy Alan Worley, and his great-grandchildren Amy Marie Worley, Colton Bridges, David / Junior Breeden, and Kayla Bridges. His brother Danny Bridges and his sister Peggy Fouts will also hold dear the memories of the times they shared.

Preston proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his days. After his military service, he dedicated his career to the spiritual well-being of others as a retired Pastor, having served at Sardis Baptist Church in Henry County and Sharon Baptist in Griffin, among others. He also reached out to the community through his radio program on WJGA Radio, spreading words of comfort and faith.

In addition to his pastoral work, Preston was a dedicated employee at Sims Seating for 30 years, where he formed lasting friendships and was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, where he found great joy and fellowship.

Preston's hobbies included woodworking, hunting, and fishing-pastimes that allowed him to appreciate the beauty of nature and the simple pleasures of life. Above all, he loved serving his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, and his life was a testament to his unwavering faith.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 2 PM at The Lighthouse Baptist Church located on Dub Walker Rd in Jackson. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 12:30 PM. Preston's son, Pastor Keith Bridges, will officiate the ceremony. An online guest registry is available for those who wish to leave messages of condolence at www.haistenfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Missions Projects of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Preston's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his spirit, teachings, and the love he shared will continue to inspire all who knew him. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, and marked by the love he had for his family and his God. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
