Andrew Eickhoff Obituary

Memorial services for Andrew R. Eickhoff age 82 will be held at 3:00 P.M." March 8" 2007" from the Sanctuary of First United Methodist with Rev. Ted Leach and Dr. Paul Clayton officiating. Mr. Eickhoff passed away Monday" March 5th at his residence. He was born in Queens Village" NY on October 3" 1924 the son of the late Andrew B. and Ruth Wolfe Eickhoff. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson" TN and served in WW II in the Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Pacific Theater on the USS Kenton. Following the war he graduated from Loyola University of Baltimore and received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Boston University Theological Seminary. He then received his PhD. in Psychology from Boston University graduate school. While at Boston University he was ordained as a Methodist minister and served as pastor of Methodist churches in Fitchburg and Clinton" Massachusetts. Following graduate school he taught religion at Columbia College in Columbia South Carolina" then served 11 years as chairman of the Department of Religion at Bradley University in Peoria" Illinois. He then served as Dean of the Faculty at Barbourville" Kentucky and Dean of the Faculty at MacMurray College in Jacksonville" Illinois. Dr. Eickhoff came to Jackson in 1981 to serve as the Executive Director of the Jackson Mental Health Center" which became the Jackson Counseling Center. He served in this position from 1981 to 1991. Dr. Eickhoff served as a board member of the Tennessee Association of Mental Health Centers. He also was a longtime board member of WRAP of Jackson. After retirement he taught on a part time basis at Jackson State Community College and Bethel College. For several years he served on the national board of the Council on Social Work Education and made numerous site visits to colleges and universities seeking undergraduate and graduate school accreditation in this field. During his working years in Jackson" he was affiliated with The Memphis Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church" and after retirement" as a retired minister of The Memphis Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Joan D. Eickhoff; one daughter" Jordan E. Scott and husband Kerry; one son" Andy Eickhoff Jr. and wife Amy" all of Jackson; four grandchildren" Aaron Smith of Jackson" Andy Nicholson of Ft. Benning GA" Amanda Eickhoff of Jackson" and Audra Eickhoff of Memphis; one great grandson" Cody Jackson. In lieu of flowers" memorials may be directed to Women's Resource and Rape Assistance Program" 62 Directors Row" Jackson" TN 38305 or to First United Methodist Church" 200 South Church Street" Jackson" TN 38301. The family will receive friends on Thursday" March 8th from 2:00 P.M. until the service time in the Disciple Hall of First United Methodist Church. George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel 731-427-5555
