Arthur E. Sortet

Arthur E. Sortet of Jackson, TN, passed away early Monday morning of natural causes.

Arthur was born in July 25, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to George and Ethel Sortet. Arthur attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN, then attending Auburn University, where he received his Engineering and Accounting degree. While at Auburn, he met his future wife, Mary Ruth McClendon, they have had a happy life together for the past 64 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 6 children, Susan Rebecca Withee and husband Jim Withee, David Sortet and wife Marcia, Joseph Alex Sortet, Ruth Ann Sortet, Tim Sortet and wife Tammy, Patrice Combs and husband Steve Combs; three sisters, Mary Jean Sortet, Ann Mara, Martha Hanson. He is also survived by 12 beautiful grand-kids and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Harris.

After a long distinguished career in the aerospace industry working at Cape Canaveral Space Center, Arthur and Mary Ruth traveled the world in retirement, then settling in Jackson, Tennessee to be closer to family.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. all at Saint Mary's Catholic Church.

Mary Ruth's favorite charity is St. Jude Children's hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, she request any donations or memorials be directed to them.
