Charles Allen Obituary
Charles Clyde Allen of Gadsden, TN, passed away September 7th, 2013. He was 70.
The son of Gayle Allen and Martha Richardson Allen Renfro, Charlie had a long career as an on-air personality and TV anchorman. He began broadcasting at WHBQ in Memphis, then became anchorman at WJTV in Jackson, MS and also at WBBJ-TV in Jackson, TN, and held positions at various FM radio stations including Kix 106 in Memphis and 92.3 FM in Jackson, TN. He later moved into station ownership when he purchased WCTA-AM in Alamo, TN. Charlie obtained an FCC grant to build his own FM station, WNBE 93.1. FM, from the ground up. He then retired after selling 93.1 FM.
He is survived by John Allen (Nashville), Elaine Allen Burns (Blowing Rock, NC), Amy Allen Epperson (Medina, TN) and Gayle Allen Corey (Tuckerman, AR), and grandchildren, Jackson Allen and Taylor Corey.
His life was celebrated at a private Memorial Service last Sunday.
