Cornelia Fly Obituary

Funeral services for Laverne Fly were held on Friday May 12 2006 at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with her nephew David Roberts officiating. Cornelia Laverne Fly passed away May 10 2006. Laverne was the loving and devoted wife of Lewis Earl Fly for 47 years until his death. She was born in Milan Tennessee October 8 1923. As a young girl she loved to play basketball and continued to enjoy womens basketball throughout her lifetime. After working in the Milan Arsenal during World War II she moved to California where her husband served in the United States Navy working as a mechanic on Naval Aircraft. After the war they lived in Tennessee and Louisville Kentucky with their son Ronnie and daughter Anne Marie where Earl was a minister and headed the Louisville Civil Air Patrol. Laverne was supportive and flew with her husband as he piloted his personal plane on many travels. Laverne and Earl worked in Christian ministry for over 36 years and retired in Jackson TN. Laverne will be remembered for her sense of humor and love of Christ. She was a compassionate and loving individual. She was known for her generosity and gave all that she had to those who were in need. She loved her family dearly. She gave service as a caregiver for her mother-in-law Lela Browning Fly and later her mother Jesse Woods Climer and husband Earl until their deaths. Her mother and father Jesse Lee Woods Climer and William Ray Climer sister Judy Climer Lamb and husband Dennison Lamb sister Frances Climer Roberts and husband Howard Roberts and nephews Wade Roberts and Jim Hogue preceded Laverne in death. She is survived by two children Ron Fly of Gatlinburg TN and wife Sybil Anne Marie Fly Coffman and husband Bobby of Humboldt TN brother Raleigh Edwin Climer and wife Ruthie of Decaturville TN and sister-in-law Bernice Fly Darnell of Trenton TN. Family also includes five grandchildren Robert Earl Fly of East Tennessee Carla Wyatt and husband Chris of Jackson Bethany Heuer and husband Christian of Nashville Jonathan Coffman and Deana Coffman. Great grandchildren include David Fly Jessica Fly Jonas Heuer Isabel Heuer and Bond Wyatt. Her nieces and nephews Janice Hogue Ellis and husband Jim of Humboldt TN Phillip Hogue and wife Diane of Birmingham Alabama David Roberts and wife Annie of Tacoma Washington Drusilla Lamb Abernathy and husband Jerry Curtis Lamb and wife Jane of Lafayette Alabama. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews and relatives Robert Earl Fly of East Tennessee David Fly Christian Heuer Chris Wyatt Jonathan Coffman Jim Ellis and Phillip Fly Hogue. Pallbearers were Curtis Lamb Jerry Abernathy Bob Parkins Robert Fly of Milan Tom Gatgens Eviston Griggs and Bennie Coffman. The family will receive friends today from 9:30 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be directed to Campbell St. Church of Christ Old Hickory Church of Christ North Jackson Church of Christ attention missions. George A.
