Fred Ward Obituary

Brother Fred Ward

Fred Ward, 72, of Huntingdon, TN, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016. Bro. Fred was born January 29, 1944 to parents Bobby and Tennie Ward in Bemis, TN, who preceded him in death. He was saved and baptized at an early age at Herron's Chapel Baptist Church (presently First Baptist Church, Bemis).

Bro. Fred had a successful career in businesses around Jackson, TN: Conalco, ITT Nesbitt, Bendix Corporation, and Townsend Industrial Sales. In 1978, he surrendered to the gospel ministry. He enrolled in Union University that same year and graduated in 1982. He served at Mercer Baptist Church in Mercer, TN, Unity Baptist Church in Jacks Creek, TN and for the past thirty years at First Baptist Church in Huntingdon, TN.

Bro. Fred served through the local Baptist Associations as well as the Tennessee Baptist Convention, having served on the executive board. He also served as a Trustee at Union University.

Bro. Fred's ministry was one of action, leading numerous local, state, national, and international mission trips. He has left a long legacy of mentoring several persons within his ministry to full time service of the Gospel, including his grandsons.

Bro. Fred was well known for growing the churches he served, thru adding members and facilities. He was a firm believer in Sunday School and was known throughout West Tennessee for his powerful, Biblical preaching. He performed numerous weddings, officiated at countless funerals, sat with families through life and death situations and was able to rejoice at the outcome. He had the opportunity to see babies born to the third generation and was able to see those babies dedicated to the Lord. He held many revivals throughout West Tennessee, the United States, and England. He was a man full of life and touched everyone he came in contact with. Most importantly above all else, he witnessed countless born into the Kingdom of God through salvation in Jesus Christ, which was his greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Hammons Ward his childhood sweetheart whom he married September 6, 1962. He is also survived by two sons, Eric Ward (Susan) and Grant Ward (Mary Anne), a daughter Katharine Bullock (Brent), seven grandchildren Jana Rhodes, Rachel Johns (Lawson), Joshua Ward, Cara Ward, Macey Ward, Micah Lee Bullock, and Macon Bullock, and two great grandchildren Barrett Rhodes and Wyatt Johns. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Davis and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Huntingdon on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 3:00 until 9:00 pm and on Monday, June 6, 2016, from 10:00 am until time of service. Services will be held at First Baptist Church Huntingdon on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brent Bullock, Macon Bullock, Lawson Johns, Cliff Kelley, Joshua Ward, and Burt Wells. The family requests that Ministers and deacons who served with Bro. Fred sit together as a body at the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Huntingdon Building Fund.

"This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it."
