Dr. John will be missed by many friends, family and patients. I worked with him in surgery many years. I met him the first day he toured JMCGH with Dr. Appleton. I always enjoying working with Dr. John, he was always nice, caring person. Blessings to his family.

Dr. Merriwether was my doctor for all of my kidney stones. The first time that I saw him, he had my confidence. I remember him for his warm smiling personality. If I saw him in the exam room or in the pre-op room, it was always the same. The day that he told me that he had cancer, he had already lost all of his hair, was a blow to me. I feel that I not only lost a physician but also a friend. My deepest condolences to all of his family. May God bless you and keep you.

When John was in undergraduate school, he worked as an orderly at HCA Regional Hospital. He was willing, able, and served his patients and staff with joy. Everyone at Regional loved him. Working with John and the daily interface with him made everyone's life better and happier. His absence in this world will be huge.
