Michael Haag Obituary

Michael Keith "Tiger" Haag

Michael Keith "Tiger" Haag of Martin, TN, age 47, died suddenly, after a short illness on June 21, 2013.

He was born March 27, 1966 in Memphis, TN. Tiger weighed only 4 pounds at birth, and his father said to his mother, "He is fighting like a tiger to live." The name stuck, and he was forever known as Tiger.

He was a standout athlete at Christian Brothers High School and Christian Brothers College. Following college, he was the assistant golf professional at Jackson Country Club for 4 years. Tiger has been the head golf professional at Poplar Meadows Country Club in Union City, TN for the past 18 years.

Tiger was the son of Carolyn and Leon Haag of Millington, TN.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lois and Carol Glass of Covington, TN, Anna and Carl Haag of Vincennes, IN.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 22 years, Amy Dodson Haag; his greatest joy and accomplishment, his son, Houston. He is survived by his brother, Lee (Julie) Haag of Germantown, TN; and a "plethora" of family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Road in Memphis, TN 38133 from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

The funeral and Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4851 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38117 at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be sent directly to First State Bank, Attention: John Clark, 115 West Washington Avenue, Union City, TN 38261 for the Houston Haag Educational Fund.

Oh Carolyn,Leon, and Lee. I don't know where to start. I missed Tiger's obituary in the paper due to Buddy being in and out of the hospital. I know your hearts are broken and I pray for God's healing comfort to surround all of you. I'm so sorry that I found out after the funeral. Tiger will always hold a special place in my heart and in my Michael's heart. Please keep Tiger alive in your heart as you remember all of the good times. He will always live in mine! Hugs and much love!

I am so sorry to hear about Tiger's passing. Although it was more than 33 years ago, I still remember him plain as day back at Holy Rosary. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

Prayers go out to the entire family. Tiger was a couple of years younger than me and usually their games were played before us so my dad and I would watch him pitch before we played. Even at a young age he was a great competitor and natural talent. I got to play golf a time or two with him 25 years later. Different sport, same great competitive attitude. But even more than that I remember his inviting, friendly smile! I could tell at the visitation that he passed that on to Houston. I'll be looking in the paper for all the success stories to come. Your dad will be proud. Our loss is Heavens gain. Steve Stapleton

Mr. and Mrs. Haag, Lee and entire Haag Family,
I just heard the news about Tiger. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. I remember growing up at the Catholic CLub and Tiger and me would play basketball every Friday night. Needless to say he would school me and wear me out in around the world, horse then 1 on 1. We had great times growing up and I will never forget his ability to connect to people, competitiveness and his great kindness. Tiger made a difference in this world and we lost a great one. He is present with the Lord and at Peace and I pray for all of your comfort and peace during this difficult time.

I have so many memories of Tiger and the Haag family. They were great supporters of Holy Rosary back in the 70's. Tiger and Lee were great athletes, Leon was a great coach and Carolyn was a wonderful supporter of our program. The one thing I will always remember about Tiger is his sports IQ. I remember him pitching as early as the 5th grade. In an intense situation he would get that look on his face during a game and it would almost be like he was in his zone and figure out a way to win. In P.E. he was a natural at any sport. I remember rolling out a Shot Put one day and Tiger threw the thing farther than anyone in the class.

I have so many great memories of Holy Rosary, the students, teachers, the Men's Club. Holy Rosary was a wonderful school. I value the memories.

To the Haag family, my prayers are with you all.

I am stunned and so sorry to hear of Tiger's passing. I was just thinking about him and some other Holy Rosary kids we used to play two below football with in the neighborhood. My prayers go out to his family in this time of sorrow.

So sorry for your loss. I had the good fortune to coach Tiger in 5th grade baseball at Holy Rosary. I was only 20. I was asked the secret to being a successful 5th grade baseball coach, and I answered "well, having Tiger Haag, Steve Metz and Mike Kelley on the team helped a little". RIP Tiger!!

Tiger was a great guy and will be missed by many. One of my favorite memories growing up was during recess at Holy Rosary. Every school day for a couple of years, Tiger and I played basketball against Steve Metz and Mike Kelly, two on two. I'm sure it helped us win the eighth grade Catholic schools championship led, of course, by Tiger and Coach Haag.

My athletic career didn't go near as far as Tiger's, but while it lasted, it was an honor being a teammate and friend of such a great athlete and a great guy.

condolences to all.
