Romie Neisler Obituary

Jackson -Romie Wilson Neisler age 81 died at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on Saturday morning January 3 2004. Funeral services will be held at Saint Andrew United Methodist Church in Jackson TN at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 5 2004 with Dr. Benny Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens Jackson. Visitation will be on Sunday January 4 2004 from 6:00 until 9:00 pm at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel and on Monday January 5 2004 at 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew United Methodist Church. Romie W. Neisler was born January 1 1923 in the Center Hill Community near Reagan TN the son of the late David Wilson and Mattie Horton Neisler. He graduated from Sardis TN High School. During WWII he served in the Eighth Air Force in Engineering Operations and Intelligence with the 364th Fighter Group's 383 Fighter Squadron at Honington Air Base near Bury St. Edmunds England and with the 384th Bomb Group in Istres France. He married his high school sweetheart Sarah Frances Weaver on December 22 1945. She survives. Mr. Neisler attended the University of Northern Colorado The University of Cambridge England Lambuth University UT Martin and he earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Agriculture Education at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he was a member of the Ag Club Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He taught Vocational Agriculture and was a Future Farmers of America Advisor at Beech Bluff Pinson and North Side High Schools. He taught at North Side for 35 years retiring in 1984. Romie Neisler fondly known as "Chief" to students and colleagues mentored many successful students in the FFA including four "Star Farmers of the State of Tennessee" several "American Farmers" and one state officer. He served the FFA State Board of Directors the Tennessee Agriculture Museum Committee and was Vice-President of the Tennessee Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. He served as Secretary-Treasurer for the FFA's West Tennessee Awards Banquet and as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Jackson-Madison County Teachers Credit Union now Leaders. He was a devoted member of Saint Andrew United Methodist Church where served two terms as Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars the "Sunhat" 364th Fighter Group Association The Tennessee Educators Association and National Educators Association. He is predeceased by his parents a brother Eugene Neisler and a sister Ruth Neisler Moore. He will be reunited in eternity with his survivors: his loving wife Sarah Frances Weaver Neisler daughter Jane Neisler Stockwell Terry son Joe Wilson Neisler of Hudson IL granddaughter Amanda Elizabeth Day a grandson Robert Glynn Day Brandi of Rocky Mount VA and two great grandchildren Colbey and Hannah Day. Pallbearers will be: Clyde Freeman Jere Holmes Stan Holmes Jimmy Joyner Ellis Lindsey Cleo McCollum Lynn McNatt Dr. Lamb Myhr Mark Neisler and Henry Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Barker Bruce Neisler Norman Richards David Richards Terry Stockwell and Monte J. Weaver. Romie Neisler was an accomplished gardener handyman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed his oil paintings. Romie loved fishing and hunting and enjoyed the 364th FG "Sunhat" Reunions. He was a kind gentle and generous man and a loving husband father grandfather neighbor and friend and a mentor to his students. George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
