Ruty Thomas Obituary
Seneca, SC
Ruth Myra Gober Thomas, age 82, died on July 17, 2016 the Hospice Cottingham House in Seneca, SC. She came to Oconee County, SC in Nov 2008 to live near her son & daughter in law, David & Jean Thomas of West Union, SC. She has one other child, Marcina Thomas Holleman, who lives in Deep Run, NC with her husband Vick. Her body will be taken to Crockett County, TN to be buried beside her husband of 53 years, Harrell Loyd Thomas. Her spirit will be in the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ whom she accepted as young child to be her Savior and God.
Ruth was born in Delmar, Winston Co, AL on May 7, 1934 to Victor Hugo Gober & Naomi Owen Gober. When she was 16 she and her family moved to Adamsville, TN where she finished High School. She obtained a BS in teaching at the Univ of TN at Knoxville and a MS at the Univ of TN at Martin.
She enjoyed teaching in Crockett County Public Schools for 27 years mostly in Home Economics. She took many of her students to compete in FHA competitions and taught them how to be successful at home and in life. She was a past member of several groups such as Toastmasters, writers clubs, and several poetry groups. She wrote many devotionals and poems with several published in "Voices International", "Pathways to God", "Tennessee Voices", etc.
Besides her two children, Mrs. Thomas is survived by seven grandchildren, and one sister, Dorothy Gober Cunningham.
Her funeral will be on Saturday, July 23 at 1 pm at Center United Methodist Church (6053 Emerson Rd, Gadsden, TN 38337) and she will be buried immediately afterward in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church cemetery fund

Ms. Thomas was a wonderful person and teacher. I have many fond memories of days spent in her classroom at Gadsden High School. My prayers are for the peace and comfort of Jesus Christ to cover all those who knew and loved her.

Ms. Thomas was my home economics teacher at Gadsden High School in the early 1980s. She looked just like this picture you posted of her. I have such fond memories of the time I spent with her. I remember her helping me learn not only basic cooking skills and sewing skills but she also helped me work on my self esteem and my leadership skills. She was always so kind to me. I remember a couple of years after high school when I was in college I heard from her out of the blue. She sent me a couple of twenty dollar bills and a letter to say hi. She will never know how much that helped. The timing was perfect and helped me by groceries for that week. During high school I went on several FHA conventions and several outings with her. She always made me feel so empowered and capable. I hope I have been able to share these lessons for the next generation of children . We will miss you greatly Ms. Thomas. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
