Stephen Maness Obituary

On November 20 1961 Stephen Lee Maness was born in Union City TN. On a Sunday night in 1968 he was "born again" and he loved Jesus with all his heart. Steve graduated from Milan High School in 1980 with honors. He graduated from Union University in 1984 with a degree in Greek and Music. God had called him at the age of sixteen into full-time Christian service. In 1988 Steve received a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern in Fort Worth TX. He continued his education at Southwestern until in 1998 he obtained his Ph.D. in New Testament. Steve felt the call of God to teach Greek and taught many courses while working on his doctorate. On November 8 1998 Steve was ordained by the First Baptist Church in Milan to the gospel ministry. He taught Greek at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary campus in Houston TX and for B. H. Carroll Seminary in Dallas TX. Steve loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ he loved his church and he loved people especially young people. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisville TX where he taught a couples' class sang in the choir and worked with the high school choir " Voice of Praise." In these places of service he mentored many young people. Steve was a humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and gave God all the glory never drawing attention to himself. He leaves to honor his memory his parents Dale and Mary Evelyn Maness; his aunts Annie Stokes and Norma Moore; his beloved cousins Dr. Greg Moore Dr. Chris Moore Allen Moore Julie and Pat Riley Tommy Moore Dwight Stokes David Stokes Catherine Thomas and many more cousins and loving friends. On November 15 2006 a memorial service was held in his church in Lewisville TX. It was a celebration of his life that focused on Jesus. On November 17 2006 his funeral will be at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenfield TN. Bro. Roy Auvenshine and Bro. Victor Morrison will officiate and he will be buried in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Williams Funeral Home Greenfield TN 731-235-2224
