Winfred (Win) Randall Milam

Winfred (Win) Randall Milam, age 73 of Greensboro, NC, passed away March 18, 2014.

Win was a loving and devoted husband, and is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ann Eddy Milam. Win is also survived by brother, Glenn Milam (Cris) of Covington, LA; son, Michael Milam of Jackson, MS; daughter, Claire Van Tol (Eric) of Gaithersburg, MD; and four grandchildren, Trent Milam of Mississippi, and Nathan, Nicklaus and Eddie of Maryland.

He was predeceased by parents, Wilson G. and Irene Milam.

He was born in Jackson, TN in 1940 and was a 1958 graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson, TN. Starting his career in radio, he transitioned to TV as a reporter/anchor in Memphis, TN. Involved in film making, he owned his own photo and film studio. In his second career, construction, he shared his talent and passion for old homes throughout Greensboro's Historic Districts. He developed and managed Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast on North Mendenhall Street in Greensboro until 2007.

Win found much joy in life. In his younger years, he devoted his free time to discovering nature, floating the rapids in his canoe, camping, hiking, and photographing his adventures. He enjoyed travel with visits to Europe, The Middle East, Asia, and South and Central Americas. He also lived for periods in Mexico and Vietnam, exploring the culture and cuisine, always with his camera in tow. A talented artist, he was a self-taught carpenter, mason, plasterer, and electrician. Throughout his life, he was passionate about golf. One of the greatest loves of Win's life were the mountains of North Carolina. He found so much happiness spending time at his cabin retreat in Boone, NC with Ann by his side.

Win will always be remembered by those who knew him for his willingness to always help out a friend, his mischievous smile, his hardy laugh and his very quick wit.

The family will receive visitors after a Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 3 p.m., at the Greensboro Arboretum Gazebo, 401 Ashland Drive in Greensboro. Reverend Carol Drexel will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Win's passing. He was a truly special person and I was fortunate to have known him. I will always remember his quick wit and great smile.
