Claudine Williams Obituary

Mrs. Claudine D. Williams, 90, a native of Birmingham, Ala. and longtime resident of Chattahoochee, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, in Tallahassee. She lived a life rich in love, family and service to others.

A retired nurse, she began her career at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, on Feb. 11, 1938, when she entered the Florida State Hospital School of Nursing. Upon completion of her nurses' training, she continued on at the hospital until World War II interrupted her career. She accompanied her husband, Bartow, during his tour of duty in the military. It was during this time that their daughter, Linda, was born. In June of 1947, she returned to nursing as the night supervisor at the nursing office. In 1952, she became the supervisor of a medical surgical ward. In September of 1957, she became the Director of Nurses at the Park Trammel Building, where she remained until her retirement in 1977.

She and her husband moved into their new home on Lake Seminole in 1977, and spent many years on the lake doing what they liked best-fishing. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, her favorite trips being to Hawaii and Alaska. She has recently been a resident of the St. Augustine Plantation assisted living facility, where she was cared for by a loving and devoted staff.

Visitation with the family will take place Tuesday, July 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. EDT, at the Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 9, at 10 a.m. EDT, at the Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads, followed by committal services at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL, 32308.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Linda Jones of Tallahassee; two grandchildren, Bart Jones and wife, Valerie, of Tallahassee and Tanya Downey and husband, Paul, of Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Bobby, Riley, Siler and Darby Jones, and Logan and Lauren Downey; step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Boykin and Jessica Handschuh of Panama City; her brother, Carlton Daugette of Crestview; her sister, Dot Harden and husband, Harold, of Pensacola; and her aunt, Hazel Daughette of Pensacola.
