Hattie Dykes Obituary

Hattie Hamilton Dykes, 91, of Greenwood died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Long Term Care Hospital of the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Dykes was of the Holiness faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Dykes; three sons, James Earl Dykes, Larry Charles Dykes and H.C. Dykes; her parents, Henry and Lydia Mooneyham Hamilton; and eight brothers.

Survivors include three sons, J.D. Dykes, Carl Dykes, and Dearrell Dykes and wife, Sharon, all of Greenwood; two daughters, Thelma Messick and husband, Eddie, and Carolyn Melnik and husband, Billy, all of Sneads; daughter-in-law, Agnes Dykes of Dellwood; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Fred and Doris Tyre of Grand Ridge.

The graveside funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 11, at Cow Pen Pond Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Howell officiating, James & Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 10, at Maddox Chapel.

To the family of Ms. Hattie Dykes. This woman was loved by many and I retain the fondest of memories of her. She was always good to me and my siblings and was a dear friend to my mother. I know she will be dearly missed by her children.
