Billy E. Barrett Jr., 61

Billy E. Barrett Jr., 61, of Fort Wayne and formerly Lafayette, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, from complications of a heart attack. Billy was born on January 9, 1951, in Lafayette to the late Billy E. Barrett Sr. and the late Patsye R. Parsons Smith.

Billy was a 1970 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School where he was involved in many school activities: A Cappella Choir, 3,4; Apollo 2; N.F.L. 2,3,4; Audio Visual 2,3; and the School Musical 3. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing. Billy had worked as a Chef and later a manager at the Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carla Barrett, the father who raised him, Clint Smith Jr., his four sisters, Veronica Barrett Slipher, of Brookston (spouse: Steve), Fran Barrett Brooks, of Rossville (spouse: David), Ruth Banes, of Lafayette (spouse: Larry) and Amanda Cade, of Kansas City, Mo.; four nephews, Steve Treece, Brian Brooks, Wade Brooks and Clint Slipher; five nieces, Stephanie Slipher, Michelle Banes, Jennifer Hodgen, Stacie Huffer and Lauren Cade; four great-nephews, Chase Brooks, Blake and Caleb Huffer and Devin Hodgen; and four great-nieces, Mekhila Treece, Mackenzie Hodgen, Taylor Treece and Mia Garrison.

Billy's wishes were honored with a cremation and small memorial in Fort Wayne.

There will be a celebration of his life at the home of his sister, Fran Brooks, of Rossville, on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. For directions email Fran at: [email protected].

To the family of Bill . . . I used to call him Bill while he was in school. I remember him well as a neighbor while living on Apache Dr. I have thought of him and your family often and wondered how and where he was. One of the best young men that I knew. "I will miss him too."
