Byron E. Henry

Byron E. Henry, age 71, of Rensselaer passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Rensselaer Care Center. Byron was born in Rensselaer, Ind., May 25, 1942, the son of the late Carl Henry and Elsie Irene (Hurley) Henry. He was a lifetime resident of Rensselaer and a 1960 graduate of Fair Oaks High School. Byron joined the United States Air Force March 27, 1961, serving until March, 26, 1965.

He was a self-employed electrician and retired from the United Telephone Company where he was employed for 19 years.

On September 3, 1966, in Goodland, Indiana, Byron married Carolyn Jean Coty who survives.

Byron was past Fire Chief with the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Kentland American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bow hunting and gardening. Byron was a former eight year member of the Jasper County Planning and Zoning Board.

Surviving with his loving wife Carolyn are two children, Shannon (Kevin) Kellner of Rensselaer and Scott Henry of Westfield, Ind., one grandson, Tyler Henry and one brother, Larry (Sue) Henry, Columbus, Ohio. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Wendell Henry.

Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 4-8 P.M. CDT .Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. CDT with Rev. Larry Piatt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Welsh Cemetery, Rensselaer.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, St. Jude Children's Hospital or a Support Group for Alzheimer's Disease located near you.
