Charles Watson Obituary

Charles Wellington Watson

Wolcott - Charles Wellington Watson, 89, of Wolcott, passed away on Tuesday, May 4 at Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born March 9, 1932 in Lafayette to the late Alfred H. and Mildred Harper Watson. Chuck was a 1950 graduate of Gilboa High School then attended Purdue University's Winter Short Course in Agriculture. The Winter Short Course was a wonderful opportunity for Chuck who started farming at age 15 after the death of his father.

On July 29, 1956 he married Mary Lois Anderson at the Colfax Christian Church. During their nearly 63 years of marriage, they were partners in all aspects of life: raising their children, farming and serving others. Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was a member of Wolcott Christian Church for many years and recently attended Remington United Methodist Church, the church he attended as a youth.

Chuck had a wonderful sense of humor and was known as a people person—he treasured his many friends and didn't know a stranger. As a farmer and Pioneer seed corn salesman, Chuck visited with people in the communities surrounding Wolcott and Remington at every opportunity. In retirement, he volunteered as a Red Coat at Home and IU Hospitals, a perfect fit for his love of people.

Chuck proudly served in the United States Army. As an active member of the community, Chuck served as West Point Township Trustee and member of the Tri-County school board and Wolcott Farmers Elevator Board. He supported the Tri-County youth and attended many athletic and school activities.

Surviving are his children Louanne Condreay, Jim (Carol) Watson, John (Robin) Watson all of West Lafayette; granddaughters, Katie (Aaron) Brovont and Rebekah Watson and great-grandchildren, Henry, Jane and Penn. Also surviving is sister, Nancy (Leon) Nadolski of Huntington Beach, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are wife, Mary, sister, Evelyn Reel, brother, Randall Robert Watson and son-in-law, Scott Condreay.

Friends may call from 4-6 PM (EST) Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Remington United Methodist Church (121 South Ohio St. Remington, IN 47977). Funeral Service 10 AM (EST) Monday, May 10, 2021 also at Remington United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in Remington Cemetery. The family kindly requests all those in attendance observe proper COVID protocols including the wearing of face masks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fountain Park Chautauqua or the Community Foundation of White County to benefit Tri-County High School students.
