Dane Yoder Obituary

Dane Richard Yoder

Dane Richard Yoder died June 1, 2014. He was born 10 minutes after identical twin, Dean A. Yoder, on January 15, 1929, to Paul D. and Olive (Kalb) Yoder in Goshen, IN. He married Beatrice (Beco) A. Harner on June 3, 1951 in Chalmers and she survives.

There are a million examples of his kindness, positive attitude and unstoppable faith! He never met a stranger. A fun-loving guy, he treated everyone with respect. A family man, his wife, his four daughters and their families were his world. He adored his grandchildren and their families. He still played with the great grands.

He dearly loved his church, Dayton United Methodist, and was involved in every aspect of the church life over the years. He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was always available to help with whatever needed done…cleaning carpets or July 4th celebration. He loved learning, whether at Bible Study or learning to text, his thirst of knowledge was insatiable. He took a college course at Krannert at age 54 where he was neither the oldest or the baldest! He retired in 1993 from Purdue University after 32 years. He loved gospel music. His dad and brothers spent countless hours around the piano singing 4 part harmonies, while his sister Eloise played the piano. He continued this tradition with his daughters and granddaughters.

He was a passionate Boilermaker and enjoyed all sports. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving with his wife are his four daughters, Cynthia A. Shafer (husband, Jerry), Gail L. Biss (husband, Melvyn), Deborah K. Kappes (husband, Stanley), and Nancy S. Baker (husband, Mark); two brothers, Don Yoder of Brookston and Denny Yoder of California, 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Maxine Yoder of Chalmers. He was preceded in death by a sister Eloise Lucas and two brothers Devon and Dean Yoder and a son who died at birth, Scott Richard Yoder.

Dane requested that this service be a time of Celebration just as he had celebrated life each day for 85 years. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Dayton United Methodist Church. Visitation also one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service on Friday at the church with lunch to follow. Pastor Mike Dominich officiating. Burial at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dayton United Methodist Church. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com

It is no coincidence that I just recently thought about Dano. Every time I hear a Gaither Vocal Band tune I think of my friend and smile. Truly a man after God's own heart.

Bea & Family,

Dane was one of the kindest people I've ever known. His faith was bold; his smile contagious; and his voice angelic.

Some of my fondest memories of Dane were from the DIMC Christmas musicals. Thinking of Dane and the white tights will forever make me chuckle! He always helped us find the good in every day events.

May God surround you with his peace and comfort. You are all on our hearts and in our prayers.

With much love,

Bea---
Dad (Dale K) always kept me up with you and Dane. I recall the Lay Witness Missions from back in the day, and the times around the room at someone's home on Sunday nights, singing Bill Gaither songs.
I know God will comfort you and disclose His promises to you in the days ahead. Now WE wait to join Dane and HE waits to greet us in the future.
With God's arms about you and yours may His peace, rest, and grace help you all to draw nearer to Him.
