Elli Heinicke Obituary
Elli Anna Heinicke, 102, died in the evening of March 3, 2015 in the West Lafayette home she shared with her daughter. Daughter of Elsa and Eduard Richter, she was born in Zschornegosda (now Schwarzheide), Germany, on July 18, 1912 and completed her schooling there. Before and after her marriage (1938), she lived and worked in several cities in Germany and Austria. Though slight of build and reserved, she was a pillar of strength to her immediate and extended family during and after the WW II years. In 1953, Elli and her family emigrated to St. Louis, MO, where she worked in retail and was admired by her colleagues for her superior work ethic and sparkling wit. She came to West Lafayette in 1976 and worked briefly at Sears on the Levee. A large part of her retirement years was joyfully devoted to being companion and mentor to her "Sunshine," granddaughter Maya. Elli was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Else Unger and Walter Richter, all of Germany. She is survived by daughter Marianne Heinicke Gupta of West Lafayette, granddaughter Dr. Maya (Gupta) Carless (George) of Woodstock, GA, and several cousins in Germany.
