Herman Rubin Obituary
West Lafayette -
Herman Rubin, 91 of West Lafayette, world renowned statistician passed away on Monday April 23, 2018. He was born October 27, 1926 in Chicago, IL to the late Aaron and Sophie Wolkoff Rubin.
A veteran of United States Army he served during WWII. Herman received his PhD in mathematics. He taught statistics at Purdue University. His marriage was to Jean E. Hirsch and she passed away in October of 2002.
He enjoyed working the New York times crossword puzzle and sudoku. Surviving are Daughter, Leonore (George Loder) Findsen of Lafayette, son, Arthur Rubin(Ronnie) of Brea,CA
Grandchildren are Stephanie Butram (Ryan) of Lafayette, Gregory Loder of Salem, great grandchildren, Quentin Memmer, Emmett Butram, Braxton Loder.
Service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Soller- Baker Funeral Home Thursday 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette. Rabbi Michael Harvey officiating. Interment will be at Temple Israel Jewish Cemetery Lafayette. Memorial Contributions may be made to: American Diabetes Assoc., or the Lafayette Symphony. herman was an eminent statistician and colleague at chicago and stanford universities. we have been out of touch but it was wonderful to see his extended family in his obituary. we would like to contact his daughter or son to tell them how highly we thought of their parents. judith and herman chernoff..retired mit and harvard. address 44 allandale st. #311 boston, mss. 02130

Though I never knew Herman directly, I did go to WLHS with his son, Arthur. Members of the Class of '73 were proud to have a genuine prodigy in our midst. (Though Arthur straddled multiple grades, so it's hard to know to which Class he officially belonged.) With so many mathematicians under one roof, life in the Rubin household must have been fascinating indeed! Rest in peace, Herman.

Herman could make me laugh. He always had a joke to tell me. He also could enlighten me on various statistical concepts. I will miss him greatly
