Marvin L. Prather

Marvin L. Prather, 84, of Lafayette, passed away in his home on Monday, November 18, 2013. Born February 13, 1929 in West Lafayette, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Denton) Prather. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.

Marvin married Carolyn S. Underhill from Buck Creek on October 17, 1964 and she survives. He retired in 1991 as a purification supervisor at Eli Lilly. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #492, a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #347, and a 38-year member of the Moose Lodge on Union St. His hobbies included woodworking, painting cement figurines and joke teller.

Surviving with his wife are his four sons from a previous marriage, Martin "Marty" Prather (wife, Cathy) of Indianapolis, Patrick "Pat" Prather of Lafayette, Wesley "Wes" Prather (wife, Sharon) of Linden, and Byron Daniels "Dan" Prather (wife, Ronda) of Danville, IN; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Douglas Prather, a sister Geneva Deppen, a brother Melvin Prather killed in action during WWII, and a grandson.

Visitation one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service on Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating.
