Nick Sevigny Obituary

Nick Michael Sevigny

- - 09/22/1991 - 01/01/2018 Beloved son, brother and friend to all, Nick Michael passed away on New Year's Day, the result of a tragic accident. On September 22, 1991 Nick was born at LaPorte Hospital and started his journey. In 2010 Nick graduated from Westville High School and in 2015 from Purdue University, West Lafayette with a degree in Education. He worked as a teacher at West Lafayette Community School Corporation where he was able to use his creativity and energy to teach the students that he loved. Nick also loved and played all sports, was a fierce competitor and a walking sports encyclopedia. While still in college, he passed his love of sports on to many children by coaching 3rd-5th grade basketball. His first year at WLHS he coached the 7th Grade Boys basketball team to an undefeated season. The following year he became the freshmen boys' basketball coach. Nick coached JV Boys soccer as well. As much as he loved coaching, he loved teaching even more. Nick lit up the room wherever he went and never met a stranger. Within minutes of meeting him you felt like old friends. Nick was a joyful force of nature. He was so full of love, life and happiness and he gave these gifts freely and without hesitation. When he said "I loved you", and he often did, you knew he truly meant it. Nick touched so many lives, will be so deeply missed and forever be our "Beautiful Boy."

Surviving are his parents Brian and Kerry Sevigny, loving sister Emma Sevigny, Grandparents William and Carol Kenyon, Albert and Dorothy Marcella, many adoring aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, and Nick's loving girlfriend Sara Furbush.

A celebration of Nicks life will be at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Services 613 Washington St. Michigan City IN 46360, Sunday January 7th from 11 am to 3:30 pm. Food will be served at Red Mill County Park, Holmesville Rd. LaPorte following the memorial.

In-lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice in his name. Nick was beginning work on a personal project with some of his students before his untimely passing. He wanted to supply new winter hats, scarves, mittens, coats and boots to children in need in the Michigan City school system. A donation of any of these items will be gladly accepted at the funeral home and will be distributed to children in the Michigan City area.

Missing you everyday

November 10, 2018

I never met Mr. Sevigny, but every week would hear a few stories about the great things going on in his classroom. Our daughter loved the way he brought history to life in her Social Studies classroom. She loved the weekly auctions held using "Sevigny bucks." He set a high bar for teaching his subject. He lives on in the many lives he touched.

Thank you for the love and support you showed my Nick and all of the students that were blessed to have you for a teacher. May your beautiful soul continue to guide us to make good choices and be good people. We love you, Mr. Sevigny.

Mr.Sevigny was the nicest man, he was kind, funny cool, calm and collected, enthusiastic, and outgoing. He was the one teacher everyone loved and wanted to have. He always had a smile on his face every where he went, he always brightened up the place, if it was already bright, brighter that it blinded us. Mr. Sevigny always knew how to cheer us up. I remembered once he "dressed up" like a snowman and all he wore were tennis shoes, shorts, a white long sleeve shirt, three paper buttons, and a black nose he painted with a marker. I also remember during second period on the last day before winter break, Mr. Hanna was trying to get our class to quiet down and I saw Mr. Sevigny and started frantically waving and Saying "Hi Mr.Sevigny!" Mr. Hanna was not happy. I also remember during the talent show he was making us kids go wild! He said he didn't like most of our music and started talking about Lil' Pump and we all started booing and laughing. He was and still is my role model. Mr. Sevigny will be cherished in my heartā¤ thoughts, and memories. I will never forget Mr. Sevigny, his catchphrases and his advice. I will never forget you. I LOVE YOU MR. SEVIGNY

While I only had Mr. Sevigny for the last semester, he changed my life a lot. Even on days when I was feeling happy or when the classes before me had just bored me, I was able to walk into his class and enjoy those 50 minutes of the day. He was passionate about what he did and he truly cared about each and every one of his students. One of his best quotes was Make good choices, be good people. He was a teacher, a coach, and most of all, a friend. He is in everybody's prayers. Rest easy, Mr. Sevigny.

I was shocked and saddened to get the email informing us of Nick's passing. Nick was one of the first people my son met when we moved to West Lafayette in July 2015. He was Trevin's soccer coach, and Trevin thought the world of him. Trevin was also in his Psychology class his junior year, I believe. I took pictures for the JV team that year, and Nick specifically thanked me at the banquet for not taking any pictures of him acting like a crazy person on the sidelines. I also had the pleasure of talking and joking with him last month on the 7th grade field trip. He was a great person and wonderful coach and teacher. He will truly be missed by so many! My sincere and deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Sevigny Family,
We are so terribly sorry for your loss, there are no words to describe the type of pain and sorrow you are going through. We met Nick years ago at PNC. We used to have lunch together nearly every single day, as a big group of friends... it was likely that Nick was a huge reason we were constantly laughing. After PNC we all 3 found our way down to Purdue and we continued our friendship there. Katie and Nick did their first ever fountain run one spring day, it was so random and to this day is one of her favorite memories. Kelly had macroeconomics with Nick and surely wouldn't have passed without his help... he spent HOURS helping her study, he was extremely smart and talented in Econ. Many Purdue memories were made with him & a friendship was created that will last forever... memories of Harry Potter premieres, house parties, Harry's Chocolate Shoppe, Halloween Parties, Fantasy Draft night, BDubs, Neon Cactus, you cooking us your mom's chicken (chicken cooked in Italian dressing), meeting in the TRC. We both miss him so much & love him dearly. Long ago were the days of PNC or Willowbrook West, but we know we will all be reunited one day. We love you, Nick.

Mr. Sevigny was an amazing teacher who could always make you see a different perspective on the world. He always lifted you up. He was always willing to take the time to talk to you and help you out. He was funny, and kind, and strove to make life better for everyone.

Kerry and family,

I am truly sorry for your loss and pain. While there are no words that can take away your pain, I hope you hold onto each other and the obvious. Nick became a great person and teacher because of your influence and his impact on those around him will last throughout his student's and your lives. You are in my thoughts and heart.

Dear Brian, Kerry,and Emma,
We were heart broken to hear of Nick's passing. Losing a loved one is so difficult,no matter what the circumstances. Nick was such a special person and everyone that he touched will have a little emptiness in their lives. I had a very soft place in my heart for Nick, and it started the first day he walked into my middle school social studies class! After I realized that his smile and personality were infectious, I couldn't really get upset with him. There were several days at school that he would say something to me and without even knowing it, he would lift my spirits! I am sure that the students that Nick taught will someday come to realize that he tried to pass that outlook on to them.
Emma- Nick embraced you as a little sister. Even though, I'm sure that he also annoyed you sometimes, he was always the first to defend you and wanted the best for you. I know he was proud of you, (even if he didn't tell you). He hasn't left you. He will be with you now every minute and will be watching as you reach milestones in your life.
As your family tries to struggle with questions of why, I pray that your faith, and love of family along with support of friends will give you comfort. The tears we shed are the price we must pay for loving someone. Keeping you in out thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry to hear about Mr. Sevigny.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I ask that God gives you strength during this difficult time.

My children loved Nick.He made learning enjoyable for them. My daughter reminded me of something that he said in his class last year. He walked into the classroom and said, "I don't know why people are so scared to say I Love You? I am going to tell you all right now, I Love each and every one of you. Don't ever be afraid to say that you love someone even if it is a friend, family member or anyone on the street". I know she will take that with her through life.

I am the mother of a junior son at WLJSHS. I was taken aback and truly saddened by the loss of your son. My son, Garrett, played soccer on the JV team & thoroughly enjoyed having Nick as his coach & trading sports stats with him. He also was looking forward to having him as his Psychology teacher this semester. I knew Nick through being one of the "team moms" for soccer this past season and regarded him very highly! He always had time for the kids & parents both on the field & off. He will be missed. Please accept our family's condolences and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.

Nick was my friend, colleague, softball teammate, basketball camp roommate and golf buddy. In his three years at West Side he made our school a better and more enjoyable place to teach. My wife Joy and I are heartbroken. We especially ache for his family and for Sara. We hope you find strength in knowing how many people he affected positively. I will always remember how Nick lived his life and I will cherish the memories of our time together.

Nick Sevigny was an absolute favorite teacher for both of our children. Nick taught them both during 8th grade history and they loved his class. Our son said Nick made history class fun, and our daughter said he was the best teacher she has had. Our daughter said she enjoyed popping in his classroom to say Hi, because he was such a positive influence. Our kids remember him as saying "Be good people, make good choices!" We lift the family up in prayer during this difficult time.

Our son and daughter had the pleasure of being in Nick's classroom this last semester. Our son was in his psychology class while our daughter was in his social studies class. Our daughter did not like social studies until she was in Nick's classroom. She said she loves social studies now because of how he taught and cared for all of his students. Our daughter said that each and every day he would tell the class, "Make good choices and be good people." This saying is one she will continue to carry with her. I hope that during this difficult time there is some comfort in knowing that Nick was able to make such a long lasting impact, not only for our children, but to all he taught and interacted with. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Nick was able to pursue the career he wanted. I first had Nick in a careers class where he told me that he would be a high school teacher. He was always very confident that he would attend Purdue and then teach. I loved his smile and the silly things he used to say. Last summer I saw him in the yard and stopped to talk. He seemed to retain that silliness and yet had such a love for what he was doing.
