Ralph Gann Obituary
Lafayette - Ralph W. Gann, 78, of Lafayette passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at his home.
He was born August 2, 1942 in Raleigh, IL, to the late Diamond "Dick" and Mildred (Johnson) Gann. He graduated from Galatia High School before graduating from Southern Illinois University with his Bachelors degree in Statistics and Master's degree in Agricultural Economics. He worked for the USDA as a Statistician for 39 years.
Ralph was an active member and former financial officer with East Tipp Baptist Church. He was also a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and Rotarian. When his children were younger, he was active as Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 1966.
He enjoyed reading, golfing and genealogy.
On June 21, 1964 he married Judith "Judy" Barwick in Carbondale, IL and she survives.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his sons: Russell Gann of Fort Wayne and Scott (Ashley) Gann of Lexington, KY; and two grandchildren: Jackson and Alex Gann.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathryn Stafford and nephew John Stafford.
Private family services will be held with Reverend Joel Flowers officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be directed to East Tipp Baptist Church. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com

We remember. We were talking just a few days ago about our group from Raleigh and Galatia, and our experiences and friendships at SIU.

I met Ralph the first day of freshman orientation at SIU in 1959. Ralph, Scott and Sam Abney, Don Naylor, Jerry Clampet and I lived just off campus on E Grand Ave and became a group of friends that continued ever onward, even gathering for a reunion 50 years later. I knew Judy from when she played clarinet in Mrs Morris’s Lincoln School band.
My wife Deanna and I offer our sincerest condolences to Ralph’s family and friends. We celebrate Ralph, his life, his family, his successes, and all his accomplishments.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Ralph Gann. I had the honor of meeting and sometimes working with Ralph during my time in Extension at Purdue University. He was always sincere, humble, and devoted to client service. He was a true gentleman and a pleasure to know.

Ralph was a warm and friendly person who had an interesting insight into Midwestern agriculture. We were members of the same church some years ago and I saw him earlier this year. We talked at length and could have talked much longer. I am saddened by his departure, but look forward to seeing him again. My condolences to Judy and their sons Russell and Scott.
