Richard B. Trott, 70

Richard B. "Dick" Trott, 70, Kokomo, died at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011, at his home. He was born August 21, 1941, in Howard County, the son of Troy Victor & Rosemary (Wirick) Trott. On April 8, 1979, he married Nancy Bockelman, who preceded him in death August 27, 2000. He was 1959 graduate of Eastern High School and attended Indiana University. While in school he worked at Hudson's Barber Shop, Lantz's Grocery and Hudson's Fine Foods. From 1958-60 he was a D.J. for WIOU radio. After graduating he worked at Greentown Ford, Mast Furniture Store and Chrysler Corporation. In 1966 he joined the Kokomo Fire Department where he served as a First Class Fire Fighter and EMT for many years. During his time on the fire department he worked part time at Shirley Home Furnishings and he began Trott's Dog House in the Kokomo, Marion and Logansport Malls. In 1970 he started Dick Trott's Class Act Catering and in 1976 he started Trott's Ice Cream Parlor in the Kokomo Mall. Dick had a passion for serving others. He always gave more than he took and touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path.

He was a proud member of the UAW Local 685, Fire Fighters Union Local 396. He had served on the Greentown Volunteer Fire Department of which his father was a charter member. He served on the Greentown Town Board. He was a member of the Howard Masonic Lodge, Kokomo Shrine Club, where he had served as club manager, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple of Indianapolis.

Survivors include his mother Rosemary Trott of Greentown; one brother, Joe Trott of Noblesville; four daughters, Dawnetta (Don) Sparks, of Kokomo, Alisha Smeltzer of Kokomo, Ashley (John) Ault of Russiaville, Andrea (Chad) Collins of Kokomo; eleven grandchildren, R.J. Smeltzer, Riley Smeltzer, Allie Ault, Andrew Ault, Elizabeth Collins, Elijah Collins, Ethan Collins, Troy Lingelbaugh, Kayela Lingelbaugh, Logan Sparks, and Dawson Sparks. He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Victor Trott and his wife, Nancy Trott.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, which his sons-in-law, Chad Collins and John Ault will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospitals with envelopes available at the funeral home.
