Robert Bylsma Obituary
Robert Lee "Bob" Bylsma, 92, of Lafayette, passed away at 3:34 am, Friday, August 19, 2016 at The Springs of Lafayette.
Born July 18, 1924 in Lafayette, he was the son of Edward and Alberta (Torrenga) Bylsma and a 1942 graduate of Lafayette Jeff High School. Robert honorably served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945.
His first marriage was to Katherine Hainje and she preceded him in death in 1993 after 50 years of marriage. He then married Yvonne M. Thompson on December 20, 1996 and she survives.
Robert retired from Bankers Life and Casualty. He had previously worked for Colonial Bread and Smith Candy & Tobacco, and drove for Hemi Hauling contracted by the Post Office.
He was a member of Lafayette Christian Reformed Church, American Legion Post 11, Navy Club Ship 12, and Voiture 40&8. He enjoyed playing golf and card games, especially Euchre and Texas Hold'em.
Surviving with his wife, Yvonne Bylsma, are three sons, Dan Bylsma (wife: Joyce) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Bill Bylsma (wife: Connie) of New Lennox, IL, and Edward Bylsma of Indianapolis; daughter, Joyce Oland of Lafayette; three step-daughters, Robyn Petty (husband: Jim) of Covington, Lynne Couch of Lafayette, and Nicole Lee (companion: Sonny Graves) of Lafayette; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death with his parents and first wife are his brother, Stuart Bylsma, and step-son, Jeffrey D. Price.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 2 pm, Monday, August 22 with Pastor Robby Bradford officiating.
