Thomas Goodrich Obituary

Thomas Goodrich

Thomas Goodrich of West Lafayette passed away on Tuesday; he was 68. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all. Known to his friends as Tom, he was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church and enjoyed his time singing in the choir, whether anyone else enjoyed mattered not. Known to his children as Daddyman, he enjoyed woodworking, crafting gifts for his grandchildren, and playing peek-a-boo when time allowed. The son of Albert and the late Betty Goodrich, he was born March 17, 1945, in the Brooklyn Naval Yards, NY. He led a most interesting life, graduating from Purdue University in 1967 and receiving his JD from UCONN School of Law in 1972. Aiding in presidential politics in Connecticut in the sixties, as a lawyer in Florida in the 70's, making his way back to West Lafayette to work at Purdue in the 80's, all the while he continued his aspirations to be a writer and superhero. He was married to his best friend Carol Quick on May 30, 1970, with whom he made his family and amazed every day with his sense of humor, ability to take on a challenge and surprise her at any moment. He is survived by his wife, Carol of West Lafayette; his father, Albert of Southern Pines, NC; two brothers David (Gail) and Jim (Lyn), three children John, Elizabeth (Adam) and their children Noah and Penelope, and Kathryn (Andy) and their son Eli. He was taken too soon, but God needed him in Heaven to round out the choir. Memorial visitation will be Friday October 11, 2013 5PM-7PM at Faith Presbyterian Church. Memorial service Saturday at 11:00am at Faith Presbyterian Church 3318 State Rd. 26 W West Lafayette, IN 47906 officiating will be Rev. David Horner. In lieu of flowers family request memorial donation to Faith Presbyterian Church. You may sign the guest book and leave memories at www.soller-baker.com.

Dr. Tom Goodrich was such a compassionate soul and he will always be remembered. When I came to Purdue University as an international student, Tom was the one who bought me a brand new winter jacket. My first Thanksgiving meal was in their house on a mini hill located in a very serene environment in the countryside of West Lafayette, In. He was a man of great sense of humour and would tell stories upon stories.
When Lydia and I got married and welcomed our daughter Valerie, Tom and Carol gifted us their cherished 2001 Chevy Blazer to alleviate our struggle with transportation especially when a baby is involved.
For me, Tom and Carol touch my life in so many ways and never will I forget their kind gestures. I remain grateful to them forever.
Thank you!

On stage, Tom would rewrite the words to more songs that he sang. Miss you pal.

I knew your father and husband when he attended IU in 1968 and I never forgot him! He once told me to turn to God when I turned to him, and I considered him one of the best men I ever knew.

Dear Mrs. Goodrich and family,
Tom was a fellow glee clubber , fraternity brother, and good friend especially in times of need. I was glad to see him several Christmases ago with several other glee club fraternity brothers. His passing is a reminder of the precious gift of life. Every act he did was to the glory of his creator. He just didn't take the credit.

I just read Mr. Goodrich's obituary, it was so perfect to describe him and his sense of humor. I found the script to Mr. Goodrich's original play 'The Gazillionaire' which debuted to critical acclaim at Faith Church circa 1990.  The performance by Jenny and Jessie as spinster aunts narrating drew laughter from the audience.  Just one of many, many wonderful memories.  Rob and I are praying for y'all.  Love, Jenny

Mrs. Goodrich and family,
Praying for you all during this most difficult time. Emma always had such wonderful things to say about the days when Mr. Goodrich would come to class and help you teach. Words can not truly express how sorry we are that he is gone..but we do have faith and believe that he is with the Lord and leading the singing.

FOR MY BUDDY "B.F" . Along with Jim and Dave, we sang together in the Purdue Glee Club back in the last 60's and BF sort of kept an eye on his little brothers and buddies. I always appreciated that. I remember when BF and Dave opened their own Law Firm in Florida and I sort of lost track since then. Ron Pettit - another Glee Clubber sent me word. You and yours are in my prayers, Buddy.

Finding the right words isn't easy. Even though time and distance has intervened, Tom and I always had a special connection. I'm so thankful we were able to reconnect this past year and can only hope reliving the old glee club recordings brought some joy. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

In fact, I am honored to have had the chance to know you and adore you, like so many others. You touched my life and heart in so many ways, and I will miss you dearly. Rest, my Friend. You deserve your time, and I will be seeing you again (huns). All my blessings and prayers to the family.

How I now wish I had acted on past thoughts and intentions of making contact with Tom after 46 years of not doing so since we sang together in the Glee Club at Purdue. I still remember how Al introduced him for a solo which seemed so publically accepted and enjoyed but maybe left better for those of us who remember. What an absolute delight it was to have shared those years and the stage with Tom. My sympathies and regards for your loss to those of you who spent the last 46 years with him.

I absolutely loved coming to class everyday knowing that each class was an adventure. He not only loved teaching, but you could just see and feel how much he loved his students. I loved getting to hear stories about your family and all the different experience while working as a lawyer. I am thinking about your family during this difficult time ahead and wish you peace as you move forward.

Goodrich family,

Dr. Goodrich was one of the most passionate teachers that I've ever had. He was inspiring. You could always tell that he really loved being in the classroom. I've only known him a few short weeks, but he seems like a great man. The obituary that was published seemed to perfectly capture his personality, as someone always able to light up the room with his energy. He was great at taking a complicated subject and making it easy to understand by relating it to the real life. I know that I speak for my entire class when I say that he will be greatly missed and that our lectures will not be the same without him. Lots of prayers your way during this time.

Best wishes,
