Valerie Gray Obituary

Valerie Joan Gray, 59

Valerie Joan Gray, 59, of Gosport, passed away Tuesday at home with her family by her side. She was born on November 11, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio; she was the daughter of Edwin Henry and Dolores Fern (Braun) Layer.

Valerie was a member of the Ellettsville Christian Church. Valerie and her husband James were co-owners of Stone Cabin Designs. They also started MissionFOTO to help present mission work being done around the world. She was a musician and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at church. Valerie and James were one of the original board members for getting Habitat for Humanity in Monroe County started. She was an assistant for Backstreet Missions and served on the board of directors for Christianville Missions-Haiti. Valerie was a caregiver, she loved helping others and sharing the ministry.

Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 37 years M. James Gray of Gosport; her daughter Cassandra Jane Gray Of Moreno Valley, CA; her father Edwin Layer and Virginia Smith of Lafayette; her mother Dolores Layer of Ellettsville; and two brothers Christopher Layer of New York City and Kurt Layer of Indianapolis.

A Celebration of Valeries Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Ellettsville Christian Church.

I just learned of Valerie's passing today, as we have been in Scotland the last two weeks. I am deeply saddened by the news. Please know that I hold all of you in my prayers. Her faith was strong, and she is now at peace, but we will all miss her smiling, creative, and positive presence.
