William Stephens Obituary

William F. Stephens, 93

William F. Stephens, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indianapolis.

He was born November 29, 1921 in Indianapolis to the late William F. and Lucille (Bivens) Stephens.

Mr. Stephens was a veteran of the United States Navy serving as a Radioman 1st Class during World War II and was honorably discharged in October of 1945.

His marriage was to Janet A. O' Neil on November 9, 1942 at St. Peter & Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1986. He later married Rose Anderson and she preceded him as well.

Bill was owner of Manor Electric, Kelly Furniture and then was a self-employed sales representative from 1974 until retiring in 1990.

Mr. Stephens was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Carmel and also attended St. Christopher Catholic Church in Speedway.

Bill was a self-made man that prospered after a childhood in the depression era. A great philosopher of life, always teaching people, and sharing his vast knowledge. Supported his children in all their endeavors. He had a love of antique radio repair and flying. A man to many that defined how to be successful in life. To his family he was a Hero.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeanne Rayman (husband: Jeff) of Carmel; a brother, Walter Stephens of Fruitland Park, FL and two sons-in-law, Jeff Price of Carmel and John Molburg of Valparaiso. Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Colin, Erin, Natalie, Perry and Neil and great-grandchildren, Jude, Carley, William and Elinor.

Also surviving is a dear friend and companion, Dorothy Derringer.

Preceding him in death with his parents and wives are two daughters, Elaine Stephens Molburg and Mary Stephens Price.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Flanner Buchanan (325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN). Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (10655 Haverstick Rd. Carmel, IN); Rev. Daniel B. Gartland to preside. Private interment to be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the William F. Stephens memorial fund to be used for good at a later date.

I'm remembering Uncle Bill, our family patriarch, today especially, on this Feast of All Saints. He was the quintessential salesperson, avid fisherman, "go to" guy for all sorts of family history.and all around resource on most any subject. Thanks for gracing our lives. Rest in Peace. We miss you.

I'll miss my Uncle Bill. There are not enough kind words to describe him. When you read his obituary, please know that he was all of that, and more. Love you, Melody Murray Rodriquez
