Albert was born in New Bern, attended UNC School of Pharmacy, served in the U.S. Navy for two years and then married his sweetheart, Shirley Johnson. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together they owned and operated New River Pharmacy for 26 years.
Mr. Rachide touched so many lives. He was instrumental in the development of Jacksonville and also enjoyed doing volunteer work. He led his life with patience, faith and, above all, a strong sense of personal integrity. He stressed the importance of tolerance for and love of all people. He was genuinely kind and known as a fair and generous employer.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnson Rachide; four children, Beverly Rachide of Tequesta, Fla., Albert J. Rachide and wife, Susan of Pink Hill, John Rachide of Bradenton, Fla. and Jean Rachide of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Mary, Stephen, Charley, Casey and Ellie; one step grandchild, Gracie; five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Isaac, Kadin, Eve and Ethan; daughter-in-laws, Margie Ringler Rachide of Kinston and Cathy Bulla Rachide of Greensboro; sister, Bernadette Ellis of Jackson, Mich.; sister-in-laws, Marie Rachide of Knoxville, Tenn., Dorothy Clasby of Miami, Fla., Glenda Medder of Greensboro, Carole Murray of Evansville, Ind.; brother-in law, Victor Bellamah of Beaufort; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Albert Rachide to Onslow County Home Health and Hospice, 4024 Richlands Hwy, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Ave., Jacksonville, NC 28540. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. and burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
