A memorial service will be held in Lynchburg, Va.
He was a former professional baseball pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, and a U. S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Carter McCombie; four daughters, Nancy Novack of Reisterstown, Md., Shelly Londborg of San Diego, Calif., Hope McCracken and Vanessa Matteson, both of Lynchburg, Va.; two sons, Charles V. McCombie Jr., and Keith McCombie, both of Lynchburg, Va.; a stepdaughter, Deneen Shore; three stepsons, Steve Brooks and Charles Brooks, both of Lynchburg, Va., and James Brooks of Newport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 3328 Bridges St., Suite D, Morehead City, NC 28557.
Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City.
