Donald F. Mauthe, 98, of Corsica, passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.
Born June 15, 1927, in Waterson, he was the son of the late Edward Albert and Mabel (Johnson) Mauthe.
He graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School with the Class of 1944.
Donald married Amy Simpson on April 5, 1963, in Brookville. Amy preceded him in passing on May 21, 2023.
He retired from C&K Coal Co. and Snyder Brothers Coal Co.
After retiring, he co-owned MSM Coal Co. for over 20 years. He was also a co-owner of Coolspring Sand and Gravel.
He was a member of the Corsica Global Church in Corsica.
He was a lifetime member of the Corsica Fire Company and Coolspring Power Museum.
Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was a regular patron of Grandma's Kitchen, where he was known to tell everyone that they had the best breakfast in town.
Don was a loving father, and he loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
He was the oldest veteran of the Strattanville American Legion.
Don is survived by his four children, Sandy (Ed Preston) Reed of Strattanville, Cindy (Craig "Toad" Hoffman) Fleming of Mechanicsville, Bob (Marcie) Lyle of Wellsburgh, W.Va. and Lisa (Chris) Simpson of Corsica; eight grandchildren, Mike Reed, Bill Fleming, Melinda Reed, Ben Fleming, Krysten Long, Cory Lyle, Ashley Simpson and Zack Simpson; 11 great-grandchildren, Brett Reed, Cole Reed, Anna Long, Sidney Long, Bailey Wrhen, McKenna Fleming, Brooks Fleming, Ryla Jo Fleming, Caleb Emery, Waylan Simpson and Nolan Simpson; and three great-great-grandchildren, Brayton Reed, Bransyn Reed and James Wrhen.
In addition to his wife and parents, Don was preceded in passing by his sisters, Olive Pasquerette and Mae Hamilton; and two brothers, Edward Mauthe and William Mauthe.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, October 1, at the Corsica United Methodist Church, located at 337 Olean Road in Corsica.
A second viewing will take place from 11 a.m. to noon, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, also at the church.
A funeral service will be held immediately following the second viewing, beginning at noon, with Pastor Jeff Foor officiating.
Interment will take place at Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica, Jefferson County.
