George Miller Obituary

George B. Miller, age 80, of Brookville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital.

He was born on August 22, 1938, to the late George Washington and Eva Cecelia (Latkey) Miller in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, Pa. He graduated from East Forest High School in Marienville, Pa. He attended the Wilson College for Continuing Education.

George was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served four years of active duty, and four years of reserve from 1956 through 1964.

On March 14, 1964, he married Patricia Lee Plyler in Brookville, Pa. She survives.

He worked for the PA Game Commission for the Food and Cover Corps. He also worked as a Deputy Game Protector from 1960 until 1965. George then worked for the Brookville Police Department for eleven years from 1966 until 1976. After that, he became the Magistrate/District Justice for twenty-four years from 1976 until 2000, when he retired.

He was a member of the Brookville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, was on Session, and was a Deacon. George also served on the Presbytery Board. He is a past Master for the Hobah Lodge #276 located in Brookville, Pa. George was also a member of the Jaffa Shrine, Chapter, and the Coudersport Consistory. George served on the Brookville Boy Scouts of America Committee and the Brookville Cemetery Association. He was also a member of the Brookville Fraternal Order of Eagles.

George enjoyed numismatics, genealogy, collecting historic memorabilia, and antiquing. He enjoyed cruises, traveling on road trips, and exploring the USA. He loved to prepare holiday meals for his family and spending time with them. George loved his family and grandchildren. He was loved for his kindness, fairness, and honesty. He would always treat others with compassion. George enjoyed his pets, spending time with friends, and relaxing at his camp. Above all, George loved his wife and family.

In addition to his wife Patricia, George is survived by three children: Joni Lynn (Michael) Murray of Brookville, Pa., George Jeffrey (Sally) Miller of Sigel, Pa., and Jill Ann (Christopher) Zemba of Apollo, Pa.; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Miller, Emily Miller, Stephen Zemba, and Matthew Zemba; and one great-grandchild, Azariah Zemba.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Thomas Miller; and one infant sister, Gwen Miller.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 21, 2019, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Brookville Presbyterian Church, 100 N White Street, Brookville, PA 15825, beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by Pastor Nathan Royster. Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery, Jefferson Co., Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made in George's name to the Presbyterian Church or the Brookville Cemetery Association.
