Martha Brocious Obituary

Martha Lucienne "Lucie" Bullers Brocious was born on April 15, 1930, at home in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County to Martha (Kuntz) and James I. Bullers.

She married Homer Charles Brocious Sr. at St. James Lutheran Church on May 14, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1988.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Ringgold from birth to its closing in 2014. She then joined Zion Lutheran Church in Shannondale.

In younger days, she volunteered at the following: St. James Church for 30 years playing the piano/organ, Valley Thrift Shop in New Bethlehem for 22 years, Zion Lutheran Church for 11 years, stuffed envelopes and sold daffodils 10 years for American Cancer Society in Punxsutawney and Toys for Tots for 7 years.

She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary for 80 years and Eastern Star for over 50 years. She received many community action awards for her volunteering.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Doverspike and her husband, Gary, of Ringgold; a son, Ernest Brocious and his wife, Nancy, of Brookville; two daughters-in-law, Noreen "Bo" (Charley) Myers and Janet Elkin Brocious; 12 grandchildren, Kevin (Janna) Scovel, Cory Doverspike, Joshua Doverspike, Eryn (Eddie) Fiondella, Steven (Missy) Brocious, Amanda (Bob) Delancey, Bradley (Caitlin) Brocious, Katie (Denny) Brooks, Zachary (Kristy) Brocious, Dustin (Bobbi Jo) Brocious, Dillon (Kayla) Brocious and Chad (Kiana) Brocious; 20 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Bullers, Lois Veronesi, Marilyn Monnin and Maxine Brocious; three brothers-in-law, Ray Markle, Richard Brocious and Don Monnin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Martha Scovel and Nancy Louise Brocious; two sons, Homer C. "Chuck" Brocious Jr. and Ralph Alan Brocious; two granddaughters-in-law, Joleen R. Doverspike and J. Gabrille "Gabby" Doverspike; six nieces; ten nephews; one sister, Elsie (Paul) Kennedy; and six brothers, Irvin (Gretchen) Bullers, Thomas (Jackie) Bullers, Walter "Bud" (Bonnie) Bullers, Wayne (Lorraine) Bullers, James I. (Emily) Bullers Jr. and Robert "Bob" Bullers; and in-laws, Oren and Mary Brocious.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the funeral home, with Pastor Thomas McKee officiating.

Interment will follow at the St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be sent to the St. James Lutheran Cemetery c/o Diane Neese, 388 St. James Road, Mayport, PA 16240.
